How to write an analysis of the article “Strategy from the outside in”
Read the article “Strategy from the outside in” (The article has been divided into 8 parts namely Article-Part 1 to Article-Part 8. All 8 parts have been attached) (The article is also available in the eBook sent to you on Page 205-212) and write an analysis. The concepts which must be used in the analysis will be based on business-level strategy (See below). The format and details of the analysis are as follows:
- Article overview
- Major findings (Relate to relevant business-level strategy concepts)
- Conclusions
- Apply the conclusions to real-life business situations (Relate to relevant business-level strategy concepts)
- Article limitations
- Lessons learnt from the article
- Can the lessons learnt from the article be generalized and transferred to business situations?
- Prepare 2 questions and answer them. The 2 questions should be related to what was covered in the analysis.
List of business-level strategy concepts:
- The company’s business model (the configuration of resources, activities and product/service offerings intended to create value for customers – the way a firm conducts its business).
- The product offering (Industry categorizations).
- The product offering (Market categorizations).
- The product offering (Defining and selecting businesses).
- The product offering (The risk of an unfocused approach).
- The product offering (Positioning of the business).
- The product offering (Product bases for competitive advantage).
- Value chain (The generic value chain).
- The resource base (Types of resources: Tangible and Intangible).
- The demand for market adaptation.
- The demand for resource adaptation.
- Outside-in perspective vs. Inside-out perspective.
- Managing the paradox (Juxtaposing and parallel processing).
- Business level strategy in international perspective (On the societal level, on the industry level and to the strategist).
- Use only the concepts which will be relevant to the article. All of the above concepts may not apply to the article.
