Human Cloning

Various studies, as well as scholars, have argued that biology is a discipline of science that focuses its studies on the growth, function, structure as well as evolution of organisms that are alive. Other scholars have devised different definitions of the term to suit their field of research. Human cloning, on the other hand, is the procedure of duplicating human DNA to create individuals that are genetically identical (Häyry, 24). The genetics field whose parent is biology has developed for a long time and is still in development despite the various concerns and setbacks that are faced in the area. This paper aims to explain the events as well as the history of cloning offering policy as well as ethical analysis determining the arguments that mirror cloning as the repagination of morals.

Research indicates that the first clone to be produced was a sheep commonly referred to as Dolly, the Sheep. Theories have it that is was developed from an adult mammal even though the cloning process was successful; the action ensued a broad public discussion on ethics surrounding the cloning of humans basing the focus on the meaning, nature as well as the future of procreation among humans (Häyry, 24). Despite this setback, in 1998, human embryonic stem cells were successfully derived. However, despite this huge success, the scientist was questioned for the need to create embryos only to come and destroy them later (Chadwick, 146). To counter this setback, a program of generating embryo cells without killing them was employed, and it was a significant impression of the progress in the field of genetics.

Currently, studies indicate that current scientific research on cloning is entirely focused on the applications of medicine. In research conducted in 2013, it is possible to conclude that most of the clone research is associated with children creation (Chadwick, 146). It similarly states that children cloning not only violates or distorts the accepted meaning of procreation but also a dangerous undertaking. Through children cloning, an opportunity is provided to the adults for them to raise children as single parents contributing to the commodification of children which prevents the child from enjoying the comfort of having both genetic parents (Lavi, 17). Several reports have been made of cases where there is a need to clone a perfect child who is bright in school as well as one that fully indulges in extracurricular activities. In such a scenario, the cloning is forced to attempt and alter or control the psychological as well as the physical characteristics of the child. Investments towards this kind of genetic engineering research is a denial of an open future for the children the program produces. Such children are burdened with various expectations such as the likeness from whom they might have been cloned.

Since the dawn of the technology of cloning, God’s role in the society has been questioned severally as well as the quality of life as well as the soul of the clone. In need to settle some of these upsets in the society today, research was conducted, and the following pros of cloning were arrived at (YU Ru-song, 10). The scientific field views it as a tool for the elimination of defective genes in the human race. This aims to eliminate the damaged DNA lines, defective genes as well as mutated ones brought about by the continuous reproduction among humans (Wilmut, and Taylor, 3). Scientific studies prove that cloning can aid in quick recovery by patients from injuries that are traumatic. In most cases, quadriplegic patients suffering from accidents spend a lot of time recovering or even fail to improve. In this case, cloning their cells would lower the period as well as eliminate the chances of recovery failure.

Despite these pros, cloning poses a great danger in several ways that need not to be overlooked in reach of the ripe fruits. For instance, cloning is generally against nature and the statutes of religion. Most people have decided to withhold the common belief that the natural processes surrounding humanity such as procreation don’t require alterations in the name of science and research (Chadwick, 146). Furthermore, gene modification in creating smarter beings will end up eliminating the average person in society. Since cloning will bring about the introduction of a new species which is associated with a reduced sense of individuality, it will result to the loss of unique preferences, differences among individuals and worst of all their personality (Wilmut, and Taylor, 3). Such failures can similarly be associated with division among people. Since the current world is already considered as racist, the introduction of a new gap between humans and clones will result in a condition that is worse and more harmful.

In conclusion, from the ton of evidence availed by researchers and scholars, the pros outweigh the cons of human cloning despite the various success in the field of genetic engineering. For this reason, the government has the mandate of prohibiting any cloning programs that are in progress through imposing policies that compromise therapeutic cloning as well as reproductive cloning.
