Human Trafficking
This entails violent abduction or recruitment of people into situations where the main goal is to exploit and enslave them. Furthermore, their access to basic necessities is limited Depending on the situation, trafficked people may face risks such as social risks where they may be isolated by the public, psychological risks and physical risks due to the excessive force or work on them. A trafficker can take the form of a stranger, a relative, a diplomat or even a professional. According to Goodhart (2016), men form the largest number of traffickers. Diplomatic solutions to human trafficking are the measures that may be put in place to curb this problem. Based on the topic, it is evident that trafficking might be constituted by 3 elements namely; The Act, The Means and The purpose.
Firstly considering The Act, it is what is done.it entails the recruitment, deportation ,receipt of a trafficked victim for the purpose of exploitation and conveyance of the victims to different areas or conditions for exploitation, which are unfamiliar to their usual sorroundings. These unfamiliar surroundings ensure that the traffickers have greater control over the victims.threats, violence, addiction of the victims to drugs and isolation are ways that the traffickers use to ensure the victims obey and submit to their orders.it may entail transportation of the victims either legally, where they use transport means and even visas if they are crossing the border, or it may be through uncomfortable means to avoid exposure.
The Means is simply how it is done.traficking is mainly executed through the use of force, deprivation, coercion, power abuse, grooming and paying or fraudulently benefitting those in control of the victims. Violence is mainly used to created fear among the trafficked persons on the dangers they can face hence making them comply. Through coercion, people are compelled from their familiar sorroundings.Abduction is another means which is used, where the trafficked people are drafted away through lies. These may include fake travel arrangements and fake lucrative jobs, fake online marriages or even the selling of the victims by their parents for adoption. According to Oram (2016), “Organized crime networks with eastern links have been involved in organized entry of women from former Soviet States into Canada for employment in escort services in the Greater Toronto Area and possibly in massage and escort services in the Montreal area.fraudlent acts may include charging fee for non-existing jobs or travels.
The purpose explains why trafficking is done. The aim is exploitation which might be sexual, economical, or forced labor though slavery means. Trafficking might be considered as a lucrative activity due to the cheap labor it offers, as Goodhart, 2016 elaborates in his book. . This cheap labor can be through commercial sex and forced economic exploitation in agricultural activities. The gain from exploitation is either financially or materially. Sexual exploitation may even encompass prostitution, whereas forced labor may entail the trafficked people working for long hours for little wages or none. Another purpose might be forced marriage, where one of the spouses or both are forced into a marriage, where one of them constrains the other domestic slavery, or sexual exploitation, or both. Force labor may take the form of lawful or unlawful setting, where a trafficked person might be drafted into drug trafficking. The laborers might be subjected to harsh conditions that are unhealthy, of low conditions and might be unsafe since they might not be subjected to any form of protection. Other purpose of human trafficking could be for adoption purposes, forced beggary for financial gain of the traffickers and forced crimes as well the trading of human body organs.
In conclusion, diplomatic solutions could helpfully help eradicate human trafficking. These solutions include; creating awareness, forming anti-trafficking organizations or even service to the victims like offering them jobs.
