Impact of Nature on a Person’s Life
Nature includes all things that are not made by humans. The phenomenon of nature
includes plants, animals, landscapes, water bodies as well as the sky. All nature is essential in the lives of humans because of the critical role it plays. Most if not all human needs are provided by nature. The needs include food, water, air, medicine, clothes and materials for shelter. As such, it is essential to preserve nature seeing how important it is to our lives. This essay is meant to explain how nature can impact the life of a person.
Nature improves mental well being
In line with Jeremy (2011), recent studies have located what nature-fanatics have lengthy anticipated: spending time in a new place, together with a park, offers advantages for one’s mental and physical health. Many people prefer exercising in an open park to an enclosed fitness centre because of the fresh air as well as the scenery. Also, nature can impact on the mental health of a person because of the peace and serenity that comes with life. For instance, when a person with anger management problems views natural scenery, they tend to calm down and reduce stress which increases their happy feelings. Many psychiatric hospitals are set up in places where the patients can have a view of beautiful scenery because scenes of nature reduce anxiety and bring peace of mind. The patients enjoy the scenes because when the natural elements are interesting, one becomes absorbed by the environment which in turn distracts them from pain or discomfort. Besides, nature improves short term and working memory. The stress of an unpleasant environment causes distractions and irritations which in turn affect the short term and working memory of a person. Taking a walk in a calm, quiet and peaceful setting is a natural stress reliever, and one can concentrate without distractions and as such, taking regular walks in such peaceful and physical environments can improve on the short term and working memory therefore increasing productivity.
Nature is a source of food
Nature provides all types of food for all people as well as other aspects of life like animals. Humans depend on water bodies such as oceans, lakes and rivers to provide fish as a basin source of proteins. Furthermore, man relies on animals such as cows to offer meat as well as milk which are essential in providing nutrients for the human body. In line with Jeremy (2011), healthy fertile soil provides optimal homes for plants, while participating in many natural cycles: from recycling nutrients to purifying water. All plants need soil to grow and as such, nature plays a significant role in the life of a person by providing food.
Also, nature is a source of clean and fresh water. There is no physical substance that humans require for survival more than fresh water. Rainwater is considered the purest form of water which is safe for human consumption. Since water makes up a majority of body weight, lack of water would impact negatively on one’s body. Water performs essential roles in the human body without which one would not survive. Therefore nature sustains the health of a person by providing water and food.
Nature is a source of medicine
Nature remains the sole provider of all medications that humans use. According to Jeremy (2011), researchers estimate that less than 1% of the world’s known species have gotten thoroughly examined for their medicinal value. Therefore, there is still a large per cent of nature that has not gotten tested for their therapeutic value. If only 1% of life has immense medicinal value, it is imaginable what amount the other 99% contains. Most drugs are made from plant extracts and modified to combat diseases.
