Impact of technology in the movie industry

Technology has been advancing each day, with frequent mind-blowing inventions as well as advancements in the already existingtechnology. These changes and improvements in technology have affected the movie industry. These changes have led to changes from how the movies were made, how they were edited, and how people watch them.

In the past, the making of a movie was a very strenuous activity which required a lot of crew members. Cameras from fifty years ago were huge and bulky. This posed as a challenge when filmmakers needed to do an aerial shoot; they needed to mount the camera on an aircraft which was much lighter than the camera itself. However, with the recent advancements, lighter cameras with more explicit images have been invented and manufactured. Now movies can be filmed anywhere at any time with much ease(Poland,2015). This cameras also have a 360-degree view allowing editors to insert a person who was not in the filming of the movie.

The audience has also benefited from the changes in technology. In the past, people were forced to go to movie theatres to see a one night only showing of a movie. This was a challenge due to the high demand for tickets making the movies expensive as well as some people would miss them due to the tickets being sold out. Recent advancements in technology have made it easy for people to access movies as there are multiple sites with streaming services such as Netflix. The TV has also allowed their viewers o watch whenever they want..

Film and movie editing has also been significantly affected by technology.in the recent years; editing was done manually by physically cutting off the unwanted part and then pasting the film together. This was a challenge as an editor may mistakenly overcut both the wanted and the unwanted section. This resulted in low-quality images. With the recent introduction of cloud and its incorporation in film making, editing has become much more straightforward.

Three-dimensional printers have also had a significant impact on the film industry. In the past, when movies were shot in different locations that were far apart, the shipping cost for and transport for the equipment necessary for filming was prohibitive (Kerlo,2009). However, due to the 3D print, one can easily print props, cameraparts, costumes and other equipment.” Thus, because of its tremendous power and extensive benefits, 3-D printing offers several advantages over traditional manufacturing. First, it uses material more efficiently. In conventional production, metal and plastic parts are cut out from larger sheets of material, resulting in the waste of up to 90% of the content. However, with 3-D printing, the content is precisely fused, with very little wasted.”(Berkowitz,2014)

In conclusion, the different trends and advancements have affected in a big way the movie industry. Movie filming and editing have become more comfortable and cheaper. Also, movies and films are now readily available to the audience. With the continued advancements in technology, the movie industry will also be continuously affected.
