Implementing a Telemedicine Solution
Background Information
Setting
Bastrop, Louisiana, is one of the densely populated rural areas in the United States. As of 2019, the city had a total population of 25,897, which is more than any other place in the region. Moreover, according to the statistics, the majority of people are youths and adults. Nonetheless, despite the fact that the place is home to many people living in Louisiana, the area has few hospitals. Bastrop, health care facility, is one of the hospitals that offer medical health care services in the region. Most of the patients are from rural places. While the area is well connected with the network, there is no health care center that offers telemedicine solutions. Drawing my understanding from the information system implemented in Grand Hospital, this project seeks to implement a similar system in Bastrop Hospital. The health care hospital seeks to commence offering telemedicine solutions, specifically in the radiology and mental health care sector.
Problem Statement
Telemedicine solution is increasingly becoming adopted in hospitals, especially in healthcare hospitals offer care services to many people located in remote places. Bastrop hospital, similarly, provides health care services to a multitude of people. The fact many of the people within the region have access to the internet offers leverage to implement health care information aimed at providing telemedicine solutions. This will significantly help the local population to have access to medical care services remotely.
Barriers to Implementing a Health Care Information System
There many challenges facing the implementation of the proposed health care information system. Firstly, the hospital will have to hire more radiologists. Currently, there are only two of them, and as it is, they can serve the patients visiting the hospitals while at the same time attend to remote clients. Secondly, implementing a healthcare system dealing with behavioral health crisis intervention is a challenging task due to the complexities involved in getting a patient suffering from a psychiatric problem remain attentive as well as communicate with a physician remotely.
