Many people think that marriage is the union between woman and man, customarily based on love. Back in the 18th century there was a different perception. Marriage was a contract binding man and woman. Based on the Austin novel women had no choice but to marry. This essay will analyze Austen’s perspective of ideal marriage as well as my perspective concerning marriage in contemporary society. The different persuasion is more about arguments of the author’s sober and mature marriage. It provides critiques of the youth portrayed by Loisa in favoring and considering Anne in issues of romance and marriage (Ones 25).

According to the novel women were not allowed to own property and were limited to being employed, so marriage was very crucial as it was a social norm and essential way of getting better social status and financial security.Elizabeth Elliot was a beautiful lady who enjoys father’s love she is anxious and unsettles at the age of 29 she is the only single as the novel comes to an end. In modern society women’s at this age should be married (Ones 23).

The Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth romance at their youth come to an end, but it rekindles after seven years where they were both appreciating the suitability of one another. Just like what happens in the modern society at the start of relationships both men and women are at their tender age, they are not suitable for one another, but with time they can lay the better foundation and end up on everlasting relationship and marriage (Jane 12).

As elaborated in the novel during the seven years, many changes happened, for instance, Anne’s changes the prospects she had in marital, she also got another perception of social wealth and social class in marriage. This duration also allowed Wentworth become Ann best match based on her status and fortunes. It is evident that in their relationship they understood each other’s concerns merits and developed recognition and love to each other. Wentworth had learned the prize the very prudence and humility he had established in Ann “on our first reading of Persuasion we miss another instance of extraordinary intimacy as places are exchanged”.

The author puts it on limelight that marriage is an agent of social change for men and women. Therefore we can say that marriage is realistic, nuanced, romantic and prudent as portrayed by Ann .similarly in the society we have common cases of individuals rejecting or perusing matches with the aim of having a social stand, many believe that marriage determines one’s social class and status, everyone wants to live a happy life. It is the character status that affects one’s option and decision on whom to marry or love.

Parents and relatives also play the critical role in marriage, as it is illustrated in the novel, Mary father liked the affair her daughter had with Charles because he believed that her husband is coming from best family (Eriksson 28). Concerning this Sir Walter Elliot allowed his daughter to get married by Charles Musgrove. We can see that Charles could with, and patience resulted in him having a pretty wife. This resulted in happiness in marriage as the father affirmed that Charles lineage was the best match since this was the second family in the county after Elliot’s. In the modern era family relatives also advise their children on marriage matters to ensure that their children get the perfect match in the society.

The novel was set during the Georgian society character view, and the society determined onions. We can see that through the story Ann tries her best with social class with the aim of fulfilling her goals of being a Wentworth lover. This affirms that there is a need for class and money in every society since we can see the similar focus in Anne’s father who is having a narcissistic personality and focus on economic factor. During this era, the foundation of society was determined by economic factors, political and social factors to come later (Ones 25).Additionally, the author is having some attitude towards marriage, the author gives her view in the narration, meaning that she supported the marriage and romance of the then time provided there is a common goal in the couples. The author comments on Ann and Wentworth marriage ‘ He was a remarkably fine young man, with a great deal of intelligence, spirit, and brilliancy’ and of Anne ‘an extremely pretty girl, with gentleness, modesty, taste, and feeling’ (Jane 45).

The author also comments on Lady Russell; she believes that the society can easily be manipulated and misinformed in most cases, considering that Lady Russell has well informed and very sound opinions. Though she had personable pride and tempers, she can be a good woman. Additionally, we can see that the author applies Lady Russel tone when commenting about And Wentworth marriage, she sounds like Lady Russel when wondering why Ann would engage herself to love Wentworth who was poor and had limited hope in getting affluence (Jane 32). Here the author brings out clearly that marriage is based on wealth and class as the key factors. Russell seems to have in her heart the interests of Ann that’s why she advised her concerning marital decisions which reflects Claire Tomalin’s this brings the idea of many cases where parents choose men to marry their daughters this can be kind of bullying one’s daughter and is not ethical “Persuasion, women’s work is never done, and every woman is a working woman.  It’s a good thing, and it leads to a happy ending” ( Anand 115).

In contemporary society the matter of marriage is determined by social status and wealth. Since many believe that marriage is the start of new life no one would like to live in poverty and problems, that’s the reason behind cases of choosing wisely whom to marry to live in a happy family and life. Generally, the persuasion by Jane is helping to bring out what is the real image of the marriage that happened in the 18th century, such relationships and marriages were started based on both couples family backgrounds and social status as well as a class in the society. Interestingly in the modern era, people have such concerns too they pay a lot of attention in understanding the lineage of the person they are in love with as well as their economic status, social status, and political status.
