In the documentary titled Before the Flood
In the documentary titled Before the Flood, Leonardo DiCaprio meets several people with different professions as well as career paths to discuss the issue of climate change. These people include scientists, activists, and world leaders to discuss the dangers associated with climate change and the possible solutions to this environmental issue. In the one hour and 31 minutes, Leonardo talks to a diverse type of people from all corners of the world, asking them questions and interacting with then though the answers they give them. In addition to meeting people, he also visits places that are evident in the effects of climate change. He then analyses the information obtained from this challenging but educative and conservatively promising world trip with his team of experts.
In my opinion, Leonardo DiCaprio engages in an activity that most people would never try because of the world’s changing weather in different geographical regions and times. His trip reveals a lot of information that is sensitive and also unknown to most people in the world. After viewing the documentary, most people must have felt the need to act against climate change in an urgent manner because apart from showing people the real problems, Leonardo also presents possible things to solve the issue of climate change. What interests me most about the film is the fact that he was able to visit many places regardless of whether challenges posed. For example, between a running time 00:17:00-00:17:37, he shows how melted ice has accumulated to form such a thick layer. Leonardo presents great challenges based on climate change, such as global warming. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
In my first analysis of a professional review of the documentary, I chose the one the Guardian. This review appreciates the work done by DiCaprio in his educational documentary about climate change, which has emerged as the most critical issue in the contemporary world. The review also explores the various places visited by the actor, including his ruminative walk and talk with the former president of the United States Barrack Obama. My opinion on this review is that it is a good one considering the fact that it not only mentions the main things in the documentary but also confirms their follow up on DiCaprio in terms of the reception of the documentary. The author says, “DiCaprio concedes that his own celebrity status is a double-edged sword” (Bradshaw, 2016). It gives an overview of how the work of DiCaprio was perceived.
In my second analysis, I chose from COLLIDER’s website. The review, like any other review, informs people who, by any chance, have not had the opportunity to watch it, what the documentary is all about. The review bases itself on answering the question of what ought to be done in dealing with climate change by referring to the possible ways proposed by DiCaprio. It is a great documentary review because it begins by asking questions which are well answered in the film. This is a right way of influencing people into reading the review as well as watching the documentary. It summarizes the film in one sentence that “It’s a cliffs notes version of what’s happening to the world we live in, what’s going to happen to the world we live in, and what we can do to prevent the worst possible outcome” (CHITWOOD, 2016). It also rates the documentary 8.5/10, which means that it is an excellent one.
In conclusion, the documentary is such a significant piece of work because it is both educative and informative. It is also an incredible work from Leonardo DiCaprio considering the fact that he is an actor but still manages to produce such work. The two reviews also are remarkable in that they try to sell the film by influencing people to view it. The most important thing is that the documentary is about climate change, which is a major problem in the present world. DiCaprio not only talks about the problem of climate change but also predicts what is going to happen in the future world if the issue is not looked upon. Finally, he gives possible solutions to climate change. To me, it is the best documentary about climate change I have ever watched.
