“In today’s world we are completely dependent on technology for social connection.” DISCUSS
WRITING PROCESS
- Remember that you are expected to write an argumentative essay, in which you draw on available evidence, and not just an opinion essay.
- You are advised to follow the writing steps discussed in class. Make sure that you brainstorm, search for information and produce a good outline before beginning to write. After you have finished writing, revise and rewrite. Finally, edit before submitting.
- Unlike in Essay 1, in this second essay, you are expected to cite your sources adequately, drawing on the exercises on plagiarism we have been doing (you have one more exercise for the break). This means that your essay should contain: (1) in-text references following the author-date system (please check this week’s key to know what constitutes plagiarism and when you have to include specific pages), and (2) a list of references (only those found in the text) at the end. For the specific format of references, check your CAE book, pp. 168 and 169. On page 169 you will find specific help on how to reference online sources. Note that Wikipedia is not an appropriate online source.[unique_solution]
NB: Make sure that you use direct quotations sparingly (max 10% of your essay word count). To know how to quote from written material that does not contain page numbers, check: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/citations/quotations#without-page-numbers.
FORMAT
- Recall that you must give your essay a title that is different from the topic.
- Please highlight your thesis and topic sentences in bold.
- Recommended length (excluding reference list): 300 words.
