HEA 510 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric Overview The final project for this course is divided into two sections: an analytical paper and a personal philosophy statement. The key purpose in studying the history of higher education is to learn from the past in order to improve the future, avoiding and learning from past mistakes. Candidates seeking a career in higher education administration can improve their professional standing by demonstrating a keen understanding of the philosophical and social influences that have framed and impacted the field. As higher education is in a constant state of change, the consequences of not understanding change from a historical perspective could also be harmful to the future success of students. In the first section of the final project, you will develop a historical knowledge base and use that knowledge base to develop an analytical paper. In the second section of the final project, you will use your analysis from the paper to inform your personal philosophy of higher education and reflect on how you can apply your knowledge and personal philosophy to foster increased student access to higher education. Together, the analytical paper and personal philosophy statement will serve as a foundation that you can draw from to inform your professional analysis and decision making regarding the operations and strategies of higher education institutions. The final project is divided into three milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Three, Five, and Seven. The final submissions are due in Module Nine.
