initial journey of the intelligence community
Week 6 Discussion 1
There is a significant need to study the initial journey of the intelligence community. The intelligence-gathering related to the cold war and the Soviet Union was the beginning of the American intelligence community and process. During the cold war, there was a significant need for the nation to have intelligence. The Soviet Union was the most significant threat during the cold war since they wanted to establish communism in the entire world. The current intelligence community can learn from previous mistakes and successes during the cold war and intelligence against the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was a different difficult target of intelligence collection and analysis (Lowenthal, 2017). Therefore, the intelligence community had to develop the most essential strategies to counter this threat. Understanding such strategy is also essential in handling the contemporary terrorism threats in the American soil. During the cold war, the intelligence threats were extreme, which forced the American intelligence community was required to develop better information-gathering tactics.
There is no direct or parallel association with the Russia of today. However, Russia still poses intelligence threats since it has been competing with the United States to dominate the space. Satellite surveillance is one of the contemporary information-gathering systems in which current Russia has been advancing rapidly. Therefore, there is a crucial need to implement essential strategies to gather intelligence information (Lowenthal, 2017). The use of Human intelligence has declined rapidly for both nations. Both America and Russia have advanced the technology in intelligence and gathering information like drones and satellites. Hence, there is a need to study the intelligence-gathering throughout history.
