Interview Report 2
In my second career option, I interviewed Cameron Smith. He acts as a human resource manager at McKesson in California. Mr. Smith has held this position for two years now. I got to know him through a relative when I went visiting. He was at my Uncle’s, and with the connection, he accepted that I should interview him. From the moment we started communicating with Smith, he was always passionate about his job. He had a great vision of growing up in the career ladder and was ready to do anything possible to ensure that he succeeds in his career line. A day for him begins with checking emails, voice messages to ensure that he gets any information (Bernardin et al. 2007). Depending on the day, he will have several meetings with fellow employees, investors, etc. He also ensures that the company is in line with the legal requirements for employment and labor. He supervises and provides an employee to perform well and performs staffing activities.
Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Loyola University Chicago. He did the course for four years, after which he was awarded a certification. Good points to human resource management include communication skills, gaining knowledge in human resources, time management, and self-discipline, and being trustworthy. Bad points to human resource management include poor communication and teamwork skills. Recruits can earn an average of $60,880 per year, while the highest-end can go as high as $221,010 per year.
Second part
What I dislike about human resource management is that it is highly stressful and involves a lot of politics. I like the constant growth in market competition, acting as a mediator in the company, and the leadership roles that come with the position. I can overcome the dislikes through learning to navigate through the various workloads that lead to stress successfully. This means staying in a career for not less than three years to gain the necessary experience that helps one perform excellently. Yes, human resource management is in line with my values and qualities. This is because I like communicating, and in this career, communication is critical. It requires possessing problem-solving skills, which I believe I do own and leadership skills.
I believe that given the opportunity, I can pursue this career. I love being in a place of leadership, and this career offers me exactly that opportunity. Besides, it helps one to grow in various areas like social skills, communication skills, and expertise. One can use this knowledge to build their businesses and be a success. Upon interviewing Mr. Smith, I got the opportunity to learn a lot. I realized that I got the passion and desire to grow in a career ladder and especially become a key leader in mega-corporate societies. I realized my desire to see the corporate world-changing, ethics followed, and people attaining their dreams. I was able to understand how happy I was at interacting with the employees at McKesson and realizing how good leadership can lead to joy and thrive in the business arena. Meeting young people doing exploits in the human resource management career field motivated me so much. To me, seeing people succeed in their tracks is always a mega source of motivation. I realized how good I am at teamwork and that I can get a good team player.
