Introduction to the US Government
Party politics involve the organization of groups of individuals having common ideas/ideology regarding the functions, as well as the scope of government. They have common targets and collaborate to choose people to public offices, develop and execute policies, advance agendas, and guide the government and the process of policymaking. Political parties select candidate to run most government levels, such as the national, local, and state level, presidency, and congress. Furthermore, they organize political rallies and make voter ready.
Party politics ensure that representative democracy functions. Political parties assist in aggregating and communicating policy preferences, holding politicians accountable, and linking the making of decisions between various legislative bodies. Party politics involve competitions in regular electoral battles, which allow citizens to select among multiple policy packages and to award or penalize ruling parties for their policymaking achievements. Two central norms have maintained checks and balances in the US: comprehension that rivalling parties acknowledge one another as valid opponents and the concept that politicians must have self-discipline when exercising their institutional authorities. Political parties represent their constituents’ views across different issues, even in times of severe challenges.
Partisan politics encourage the striking of a balance between effectiveness and democracy in the definition of the government’s agenda and courses of action. A representative government chosen democratically is expected to put into consideration their democratic values, on top of being efficient. Democracy forms a critical feature of government because it offers legality to those elected in public offices to represent the voters in the pursuit for common good and warrants a system whose key players can be held responsible for their actions and decisions. On top of the duty to represent voters’ needs, competition compels those elected to perform well because the systems punish incompetent politicians. Partisan politics also encourage accountability and transparency to political decision making and execution.
Even though the partisan divide is now broader than it has ever been witnessed within the past several years on political values, notable differences in principles are apparent in both the Republican and Democratic alliances. The design of political typology is such that it enhances understanding of how the intra-party schisms and show how various areas in every partisan alliance vary in their engagement in politics as well as other characteristics of American life. Contrastingly, political participation is lower among most of the groups having diverse political values. Voters vote for the leaders who represent them effectively and eliminate those that underperform. Let us wait for the next elections and see what happens to President Trump and other politicians who have served in just one term.
