Is the Immigration Reform Necessary?

Introduction

Currently, the United States Government adopted a new immigration policy. Specifically, the policy is concerned about illegal immigrants in the United States (Jens and Ana, 2019). The reform bases its argument that illegal immigrants are criminals. The government is seeking to reform American immigration for a healthy economy.

Contrary to the policy’s claims that immigrants are criminals with nothing to offer America, people from all over the world travel to the United States to (legally or illegally) to work for a better life. When they get to America, they contribute in building the economy as well as the Americans do. This essay seeks to discuss the immigration issue and its effect.

America’sAmerica’s Advantage: A Handbook on Immigration and Economic Growth (Book-Matthew Denhart).

The book by Matthew Dehart describes the role of immigrants in nation-building. For Denhart, immigrants are not illegal criminals who incriminate their ways into America. He sees immigrants as individuals who envision the United States as an economic hub, and make difficult decisions to leave their countries, travel to America and work hard to improve their lifestyle (Denhart, 2015). In the process, immigrants contribute diversely to the growth of the economy of the United States. According to Denhart, immigrants increase the labor workforce. They cluster in both high skilled and lesser skilled occupations, which reflects the diversity of their educational background. What Matthew Denhart attempts to discuss in the body of the book is that immigrants make valuable contributions to building the economy of the United States. He explains in the book how America rose to become the most robust economy in the world by attracting diverse groups and reaping the benefits of their skills and hard work.

Why does the US need immigration reform? (open society foundations by Kadir Van Lohuizen, May 2019)

From Luhuizen’sLuhuizen’s first statement, there are many reasons for people to migrate to the United States, which are the same from the beginning. Luhuizen mentions refuge from war, violence, and natural disasters as well as to seek for employment, and to join their family members. According to Luhuizen, two-thirds of undocumented immigrants have been living in the United States for more than ten years, and many of them live with their children, who are United States Citizens. The high numbers of undocumented immigrants could be a better reason for the reform. The many numbers of undocumented immigrants are problematic for undermining the rule of law and encouraging disrespect to the law in the future, apart from imposing adverse economic costs on the government of the United States. In the body of the article, Luhuizen describes the role of immigrants, which he writes that the newcomers are nonetheless a necessity for the United States to pay taxes, creating jobs, and starting businesses..

An overview and critique of the US immigration and Asylum Policies in the Trump Era (Journal on Migration and Human Security, Paul Wickham Schmidt).

The article by Schmidt examines the different categories of membership in the United States. He introduces his article by explaining that membership is the United States’States’ most challenging, fundamental, and contentious issues and involves frequently conflicting human needs, including belonging, self-determination, allegiance, loyalty, and even survival (W, 2019). Schmidt mentions a statement of the United States’States’ Supreme court that immigrant expulsion from the nation can lead to loss of everything that makes life worth living. In the body of the essay, he explains how the immigration policy has led to instances of accelerated, harsh, and aggressive removals in several parts of the country. However, according to Schmidt, mass deportation of the 10.7 million undocumented residents of the United States is unlikely due to their rights to a fair procedure before their removal from the country. He states that the actions escalated by the policy are not only wasteful but will remain controversial in the public eye for long in the future.
