Islamic terrorism
Terrorism is an intentional act of violence toward a state or a specific group of people, mainly due to political indifferences. Terrorism is becoming an increasing violence activity primarily led by Islamic people. Analysis of terrorist groups has shown that many terrorist groups, such as ISIS, are incorporating both genders in their groups. Each gender plays a significant role in terrorist groups, and they include gender due to their tactical strategies.
In recent years there has high voluntary immigration of Islamic women from the West to Islamic states. Many of the women traveling in groups such as Shamima Begum. Also, traveling with their families and children. Immigration aims to join terrorist groups since they believe it is empowering to be part of terrorism. By being in the terrorist camps, women play the role of recruiters and radicalizers of incoming volunteers. Also, women support and enhance the growth of the caliphate, where they create and educate the next generation of a terrorist. Besides, women are the facilitators of violence since they offer support to their husbands. A woman is a tactical advantage to terrorism, based on the belief that they are prone to sympathy from society and insurgency.
Men are more involved in terrorism. The masculine domain encourages men’s involvement in the war. Also, men engage in the battle since, as the head of the family, they should be the protector and provider. Thus, victory in the terrorism war increases their patriarchal pride. Besides, men commit to engaging to demonstrate their power, reaffirm their masculinity, and establish political identity. Men’s involvement in the war is not a tactical advantage. However, it ensures there is a continuity of generations from women in case of death.
Terrorism needs to be understood based on gender participation and roles. By understanding gender roles in terrorism, better policies and laws will be implemented to fight terrorism. No state should condone terrorism, and every government should take initiatives to fight it.
