Jazz Event
Music is an important aspect of society that helps to connect the world through rhythm and melody. On the 6th of March 2020, I was privileged to have the opportunity of attending a jazz performance. The jazz performance took place at the Red Poppy House, located off 2698 Folsom Street, San Francisco, in the state of California. The location of the event venue provides a conducive environment for jazz fans to meet and interact with famous jazz performers. The venue’s doors were open at seven o’clock in the evening, and the show started at approximately seven-thirty in the evening. The event venue was able to accommodate 30 seats with standing room available. One thing I liked about the event was that it was cheap, costing $25 for senior students with their school id while allowing the audience to have a great experience. The jazz event was well organized, and the performers knew how to keep time and did not waste time taking to the stage to perform their jazz pieces. The title of the event was Bass Winds with B’kongofonic Spirit: bass clarinet, bass flute & tenor saxophone. From where I was seated, I was able to view the instruments used by the jazz performers. The primary performers of the event included; Paul Austerlitz, Hafez Modirzadeh, Keshav Batish, Alex Farrell, and Simon Lace. The performers used a variety of jazz instruments that were in perfect sync giving the best melody I have ever heard. Instruments used in the performance included, bass clarinet played by Paul, bass and alto flutes played by Calloway, tenor saxophone played by Hafez, drums by Batish, bass by Farrell, and guitar by Lace. The jazz performance by the five performers was exciting, and there was a heavy influence of Cuban influence in their performances. The style of jazz performance is called B’kongofonic Spirit. The B’kongofonic genre of jazz focuses on jazz music that is highly influenced by Iranian, Cuban, Dominican, and Haiti spiritual traditions. Thus, the incorporation of all these styles and traditions gives a rich melody of music that puts emphasis on celebrating culture.
The jazz event was a success and great experience that I would recommend both jazz and non-jazz enthusiasts to attend. The event was well organized from the collection of the ticket at the entrance to the performances. The event started early, and the fan service was great since the seating arrangement allowed everyone to watch the performance without any obstructions. One important thing to note about the performance was the acoustics of the room. The acoustics of the room were great such that they allowed the audience to experience the rich flavor of the B’kongofonic spirit jazz. The event was cheap since I was able to pay $25 since I was a student and had carried my student id with me. From the performance, I was able to detect the influence of Cuban culture, one of the performances, and this made me feel good because I enjoyed the music being played. Overall it was a nice experience that I hope to repeat in the future.
