I am a supervisor at a mining factory. The job brief entails overseeing the workflow of the entire organization. This role is a complex one as a person must not only supervise the work of others but be responsible for the whole team. A supervisor is responsible for coaching the employees and handling any grievances that may arise at the work station. He is also the link between the employees and upper management. He is responsible for communicating issues affecting employees to the administration, and the control passes out information via the supervisor. To be an ideal candidate for a supervisions job, one must be a competent individual who can work well with other people without prejudice and biasness. One must be well versed with responsibilities associated with being a supervisor and must be self-driven and able to work under pressure. The goal of a supervisor is to ensure operations in the organization are carried out smoothly to ensure there is productivity, and the business makes a profit for it to have sustainable growth.
Responsibilities of a supervisor. (Ellis, (1986))
Outline the set goals and performance required by employees and set deadlines in which the goals have to be met
Delegate duties to employees and train new employees
Supervise employee’s performance and provide feedback and criticism where necessary and offer to coach
Able to solve conflicts in the organization
Maintain office records and ensure employee work on their scheduled time
Prepare and submit a performance report
Ensure employees adhere to the company’s rule and take disciplinary actions for people found doing centrally to the organization’s rules
For one to be appointed as a supervisor, he/she must possess specific knowledge skills and abilities for them to fit the job description.
Knowledge
Must pose a diploma/certificate in a management field or similar
A certificate in a leadership program will be an added advantage
At least one experience as a supervisor or in a similar role. This will make it easier for a supervisor to kick off the work immediately as he/she is familiar with the duties and responsibilities needed to run an organization.
Must be familiar with the company policy and legal policies of a manufacturing business. This will enable the supervisor to carry out statutory responsibilities on behalf of the company
Vast knowledge of computer applications such as MS Word and Microsoft excel. The company uses software to store its data; hence a potential candidate must show competency in using these applications.
Skills
Good communication skills. A potential candidate must have excellent communication skills so that they can effectively give out duties responsibilities ad directives to the employees. He/she must be able to give and receive feedback to manage a heavy workload and work within the specified time frames provided in a project. (Lockwood, (2007))
Conflict resolution. A potential candidate must pose-ability to solve internal conflicts in the organization without biasness. He/she must identify the cause and come up with solutions to improve the organization’s productivity.
Leadership. A potential candidate must pose leadership skills to be the guide, support, and a motivator in the organizations. A leader delegates duties and access the team’s strengths and weaknesses and come up with improvements needed to improve performance.
Time and priority management
A supervisor must work within the time frame to ensure heavy workloads are done with the specified time limits. He/she must be able to understand differences in employees time and priority and organize work efficiently to ensure the workloads are a success
Problem-solving. A potential candidate should not only how to handle an issue but solve the problem in a structured manner.

A person that possesses the said skills knowledge and abilities can meet the task of a supervisor. This is because; the knowledge acquired in school that is BA in the management field will make it easier for the candidate to be vast with terms in a management field. He/she will know the ethical and legal issues required to run an organization. Knowledge of computer application will ensure secure storage and management of the companies data. The skills are essential in the day to day running of the organization. A supervisor must communicate well with employees to delegate duties effectively and able to solve conflicts in the organization. The skills will ensure the organization is productive and can meet demands on time. The mentioned abilities will ensure fairness in the organization and smooth running. A supervisor should be a role model; hence employees must learn from his outstanding characteristics.
I believe for a person to qualify for this position, they must have studied two years in college to attain their diploma and an additional one-year internship program in a busy organization. It will ensure there are up to the task and have knowledge about the job description and what is expected of them. For experience, one must pose the qualifications before hiring. As for the skills, this can be trained through workshops and seminars organized by the company.
