Key ideas from the Chapter on Daniel in Courageous Faith
From the article of standing up for what you believe under the chapter of development for spiritual determination, it expounds on the character of Daniel who was captured when he was fifteen during the capturing of Babylonian’s capturing Jerusalem. There are three ideas from the story, and one gets about Daniel from Courageous Faith. The young man who was held hostage were required to give up their beliefs and learn about Babylon beliefs. There were even instructors that were assigned for teaching them language and literature of the Babylonian culture. This entailed getting Babylonian names and getting assimilated to the Babylonian culture.
Another idea is that Daniel and his peers were either supposed to compromise their beliefs or choose to give up their lives. Some of them were able to compromise, but others found it hard hence they had to face executions which were a daily occurrence. Therefore, these teenagers were held as prisoners of war, and they were aware, and they chose to be royal hostages. Additionally, from these chapters, they give an idea that Daniel regardless of being held captive, he did not give up on his believers. ,His name up to date is highly associated with standing for faith in God. Daniel and his peers were putting their beliefs in the ultimate test. In pursuit of keeping their faith, Daniel requested being allowed to be vegetarian as they participated in schooling without compromise of their beliefs.
Two things learnt about the character
Form these chapters, I have learnt that Daniel had resilience on God. In this time, Daniel had faced different stressful situations, trails and temptations. For instance, they were faced with a path of giving up their faith and assimilating to the Babylonian culture. However, he never relies on himself or his strengths and wisdom even though he was smart and good looking. Every time he faced temptation and trails, he prayed to God asking Him to show His favour and compassion. Additionally, from the article l learnt that Daniel, with his peers where they stepped out and presented their desires of being allowed to consume vegetables instead of compromising their faith of God. Even though they knew there were tough consequences for such actions, they boldly communicated their wishes.
One way of using the lessons learnt
From the lessons learnt in this chapter of courageous faith and standing up for what I believe, I can apply them in my life. For instance, in a situation where I am faced with temptations and trial of giving up on what I believe because maybe there are consequences of not compromising, then I should never give up. An example is where we were doing an exam and my fellow students decide that we should strike not to take the exam just because they have been denied a chance of cheating. I will not comprise even though at the end, I might experience rejection and discrimination from my classmates, but I will stand for what I believe in, that cheating in exams is terrible. In conclusion, from these chapters, I have gathered different ideas and different things that I have learnt in about the main character in Courageous Faith which apply to daily life. They help in encouraging one to take a stand on what they believe regardless of what will happen.
