Kitchen Best company
Scenario
Kitchen Best is a multi-national company that manufactures small, household kitchen appliances such as stand mixers, toasters, and blenders. About three months ago, the company started getting customer complaints about metal shavings ending up in food items that were run through one of Kitchen Best’s blenders. The company had social media accounts that were set up by the Public Relations department, and by individual employees. When the complaints began to increase, the PR department said nothing, and individual employees began retaliating against customers through their own social media accounts. One of these replies was a racially charged, offensive reply that gained national headlines. Soon after, a recall was issued through the Consumer Products Safety Commission for recall of the blender. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done in terms of company image, and a disaster plan was needed to restore consumer trust in the company.
The CEO, Bob Goode decided to take swift action by firing the employee who sent the offensive tweet on Twitter and unseated the entire PR team. A new team has been installed, in a department called Corporate Communications. Your team are the key employees that make up this new department, and you have been tasked to do the following:
1.) Formulate an immediate disaster recovery plan. This should show a communication plan that will restore trust in the company by taking responsibilities of past issues, apologizing for the inappropriate communication that was sent, explaining how the company will compensate customers, and explain steps that will be taken to prevent this kind of issue from happening in the future. 2.) Formulate a social media policy. This policy should be comprehensive, and include:
A.) The definition of social media, including popular social media tools that may be used.
B.) A policy that concerns how social media should be used at work.
C.) A policy that concerns how employees should utilize their private social media accounts in terms of company communication.
D.) Best practices (examples) of how social media should be used for company business.
E.) How the policy will be enforced, including consequences for violating the policy.
Your audience for these items will be Mr. Goode (CEO) and the Board of Directors of the company. These are your stakeholders for this project. Review the Markel and Selber text if needed if you need to review how to write for a specific type of audience.
You will assemble these two major components in a single document (MS-Word), that will utilize the required course cover and references page, appropriate section headings, font styles (i.e. italics), graphics, and adhere to the formatting guidelines. Your final paper should be a professional looking document that has a table of contents and flows easily for the reader. The document should be at least 6 pages (not including cover and references page).
