Investigative Project Summary: Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to get students started on the research necessary to complete the final project in this class – The Investigative Project – which is due on the last day of the class. The summary requires students to come up with a research question and find at least 3 peer-reviewed (scholarly) full-text articles that the student will use to answer the selected research question. This preparatory work will ensure that students are ready to write the 5-page Investigative Project in time to be finished by the end of the quarter. A two-page (minimum) typed summary (double spaced) of your Investigative Project is due on Sunday March 1 by 8pm. Anybody who does not hand in a summary will not be permitted to submit the final paper. * Include your name, my name, the course number and the title of your project. [unique_solution]* Document is typed using Times or Times Roman 12-point font, and must have 1-inch margins. * Page numbers are required. If you choose to use a cover page please do not number the cover page, the first page of the text is page one. * Do not include an abstract * Do not use a running header. * Do not use Wikipedia, Cliff’s Notes, or any website whose author or date of publication you cannot ascertain. * Make sure your references are in a list ordered A-Z by author surname and that you use a header: References. In the summary you must have the following items: One page outlining the research question: What is the extent of the problem? (1 paragraph), Why you chose this topic – how is it relevant to your life or to the life of other people? And why you think it is an important. (1 paragraph) What are the implications of ignoring this issue? Explain why should we care about this issue? (1 paragraph). See Investigative Project section below for tips on how to choose a question. (2) A second full page outlining what you know about the topic so far based on the research you have already done. This should be formatted like an annotated bibliography where you number each article (at least 3), provide the full citation and then discuss the article (1 paragraph for each article). Explain clearly why you chose each article and how that article is going to contribute to the question you to will answer in your paper. For example, if your topic is homelessness in Washington State and you have an article on eating disorders in homeless people I will surely question why you chose that article. So, you want to spend time in the article databases Ebscohost and Proquest on the OC library and find 3 articles that really help you understand the issue. (3) A list of your sources in correct APA format (with the header: References.) Note: You do not have to use the same sources in the final paper but your search for articles for the Summary should be a good effort to find sources that you do plan to use. Remember you must list at least 3 academic sources other than the Martin text. Make sure if you include hyperlinks in your entries that the links work. Marks will be deducted for dead hyperlinks. A good test is to send all the links to yourself in an email and see if you can open them when you receive the email.
