Law as a major
Personal interests have always proved to be significant towards telling something extra about an individual, especially when interacting professionally with others. My interests are tied towards positively impacting society through ensuring everyone is treated equally without any form of discrimination. One of the significant interests involves volunteering in various Pro-Bono programmes as reflected in how I have participated in various local community projects. Participating in footballing activities with my local club is also another interest where, despite enjoying the sport, I am presented by the opportunity to work well with others and equally adjust to a high-pressure environment. My interest in law-related activities is also evident from the point that I find myself visiting law-related affairs and other workshops attended by the general public. Another interest that I also find helpful is blog writing, which directly helps me keep up with the latest news and happenings in different fields like business, sports, and the legal sector. Studying law is purely my future career considering my interest in promoting justice in society.
Becoming a great lawyer has always been my dream job ever since I realized the importance of having a society that embraces equality. Law as a career, on the other hand, present a wide selection of career options, especially in the public and private sector, and offers good financial rewards together with emotional rewards. Over the years, it has been believed that there is always the opportunity for lawyers to earn a lucrative income. Law as a career further presents lawyers with the chance of mental stimulation and intellectual challenges due to the complex legal theories, case laws and statutes (Pierson, 2014). Reports has also shown that lawyers always have the privilege of having particular level of prestige which affords specific benefits in contrast to other employees.
The selection of a major can sometimes face numerous challenges and this can be reflected on the kind of difficulties encountered when selecting law as a major. The wish of my parents is one of the greatest challenges I am encountering considering they would prefer a more practical course for me and in this context engineering fits the profile for them. Another challenge during major selection is the fact that I lack awareness about interest and skills about another field like Business or medicine and thus I presume law as the most favorable. The lack of awareness according to Shaffer et al. (2012), is what results to fear of failure and creating an assumption that I won’t be good at another major.
