Leadership approach
Introduction
Leaders are the driving force of controlling an organization towards a perfect destination. The study will explore the importance of the trait approach of leadership style. The trait-based plan states that the quality of leadership is based on the characteristics of leaders. Traits include their techniques, capabilities, the efficiency of understanding the demand of his followers, and the ability to create a visionary for its followers to achieve their goal. I will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the trait approach of leadership in the essay, followed by a leadership plan. The analysis of the entire leadership plan can clarify the importance of the trait theory of leadership.
Leadership approach
Leadership must be evaluated on the ground of there basic parameters- the capability to communicate diversified followers, efficiency to guide the followers positively and efficiency to show a clear pathway to the followers to achieve their goal (Solaja, Idowu & James, 2016). I will choose trait leadership to evaluate my leadership capabilities. Trait approach depicts the ability of leaders to accept the responsibility of the entire task, to show physical and mental strength to support the followers, to enhance the persuasion skill, to make emotionally stable and to show personal charisma to inspire followers to achieve their desired goals (Solaja, Idowu & James, 2016). I prefer to utilize most of the characteristics of the trait leadership approach in both my personal and professional life. I prefer to accept the fact which I have committed, whether it is good or bad. Moreover, I have an eagerness to accept the defeat and poor performance of any team. It motivates me to do better in the coming days with a proper application of confidence and emotional stability (Solaja, Idowu & James, 2016). Trust and emotional stability are two significant factors of trait leadership that enhance the positive attitude of a leader. I utilize my positive attitude to influence my followers to achieve both the individual goal and collective goal. It helps me to create a steady team spirit among the followers with a fierce attitude toward achieving the goal (Mills & Boardley, 2016).
Tough attitude is also a handy medium for leaders to control their employees. I utilize my strictness and toughness to nullify the conflict of interest among the followers and team members (Khuong & Yen, 2014). It is essential to stay strict and firm to control disputes and issues. Moreover, a fierce attitude also helps me to establish my dominance as a leader. I think leaders need to dominate the activities of their followers. It helps them to maintain a well-disciplined approach of the followers (Mills & Boardley, 2016). I think the disciplined behavior of my followers can help to establish my charisma in front of the followers to motivate them to attain their goals. I use to provide an example of different hardships and achievements of my life to the followers to make them mentally prepared to tackle the difficulties of achieving the goal (Mills & Boardley, 2016).
Strengths and weaknesses
The goal-achieving capability with proper utilization of performance, dominance, skill, and responsibility is one of the most significant advantages if trait leadership. I think trait leadership correctly evaluates the qualities and efficiencies of a leader and authenticate his eligibility as a leader (Strøm, D’Espallier & Mersland, 2014). The works and performance make a trait leader instead of his ideological words. Thus, as a trait leader, I always prioritize to apply my best as a leader.
On the other hand, trait leaders are not naturally born leaders. Instead, the trait leaders need to apply their performance, communication efficiency, and capability of understanding others to prove themselves as a leader. Thus, trait leaders can easily understand the issues and obstacles of their followers. At the same time, the trait leadership approach has inconsistency, which is one of the most significant disadvantages of the leadership theory because traits change within a short period. Hence, the trait leaders can face different kinds of leadership traits is over the same problem, which can confuse others (Strøm, D’Espallier & Mersland, 2014). Thus, I think the strengths and weaknesses of trait leadership are adjoined within the same issue. Possible reformation and more advanced leadership plans can reduce the disadvantageous factors from trait leadership.
Leadership plan
A proper blueprint of the leadership plan can be a useful step to manage the disadvantages of trait leadership. I should develop my communication capability to improve myself as a trait leader (Reb, Narayanan & Chaturvedi, 2014). I must learn to use both verbal and nonverbal communication techniques to reduce the inconsistency from the trait leadership approach. Moreover, I should set a specific goal for the follower and need to guide them to achieve the goal. It helps to maintain consistency to meet a single target at a time (Reb, Narayanan & Chaturvedi, 2014). Furthermore, setting a higher purpose for an only goal reduces the additional pressure of achieving many goals at a time. I must guide my followers to achieve goals breaking it into small parts to make it an effortless initiative.
Summary
The entire study has discussed the trait leadership approach in a reflective mode. Trait leaders are always responsible, and they can set a high visionary standard. On the other hand, inconsistency is a crucial disadvantage of trait leadership. A proper application of communication and goal achieving capability can be useful to improve the skills of trait leaders.
