Leadership Coaching Reflection
Coaching provides an incredible opportunity to learn from those who have seen and done it all as far as a particular lesson is concerned. Coaching, like mentoring, is intended to enable corporate clients and individuals to attain their full potential via exploration of motivations, skills, thought processes, and desires, among others. Previous leadership coaching has enabled me to fully understand how leaders should integrate leadership theories and strategies, and why interaction with the different forces in an organization or social context is critical to realizing set goals and objectives.
Coaching is a critical process that supports learning and development, thus leading to the enhancement of performance. A successful coach is one that has knowledge and grasp of the process as well as the skills, techniques, and styles that are relevant to the context (Ribeiro & Menezes, 2019). Leadership coaches, for instance, have to portray that they have previous immersed themselves in situations that required them to be critically incorporate their leadership skills.
The leadership coaching provided insight into how aspiring leaders could implement the different styles of leadership in their endeavors. Some leadership theories or styles that have proved vital in organizational and personal life are servant leadership, transformational leadership, and strength-based leadership. Leadership coaches underlined the role of leaders in leading by way of example rather than delegation. In subordinates perceive leaders as people of service, they become more motivated to perform their roles and responsibilities. Servant leaders are further able to consider the unique situations of every individual, thus enabling them to create a supportive environment (Eva, Robin, Sendjaya, Dierendonck, & Liden, 2019). On a different note, transformation leadership attributes enable leaders to be people of change. In the context of an organization, an entity that does not endeavor to advance should brace itself for failure in the current competitive world. Leaders, therefore, have to propagate change for the betterment of self, others, and the organization. Lastly, leadership coaching brought new light into the essence of strength-based leadership. Every human has strengths and weaknesses, but focusing on the strengths is key to eliciting maximum productivity. As such, coaching was vital to understanding how different styles of leadership can be applied to achieve a greater good.
Leadership coaches asserted to the need to use a variety of leadership strategy to build an interaction that supports productivity. Leaders have to begin by creating and communicating a vision, which helps teams understand the goals and the means of attaining that goal. Valid goals are those that reflect the reality of an organization, and they constitute the purpose that drives an entire organization. This strategy helps every person understand his or her place on the journey to attaining the set goal. Recognition ensures that every person’s input appreciated, and thus, it is vital to instilling a sense of engagement and commitment. Leaders who recognize other people are seen as portraying empathy and commitment to growth, which are some of the principles of servant leadership. The last major strategy that plays a key role in building a powerful interaction is communication. Effective leadership strategies and styles are built on strong communication skills from the part of the leaders and the subordinates (Mayfield & Mayfield, 2016). Leaders should be able to lead with clear intentions to avoid causing chaos and confusions, while subordinates’ communication skills are vital to complementing input through ideas and innovations. As such, leadership coaching was essential to promoting an understanding of how leadership skills and strategies can be applied in harmony to support goal attainment.
