Leadership journal Summary
A celebration is an essential activity in one’s spiritual life. In Nehemiah 12, we see the Israelites celebrating during the dedication of the wall. The city that was rejected now has been the city of happiness and prosperity. In Nehemiah 12-27, the Levites were brought from where they lived to come in Jerusalem to celebrate Joyfully with songs, thanksgiving, and with the music of herbs and lyre. In verse 28, the musician was gathered and brought together from the region of Netophathites. The congregation divided into two choirs, each going in the opposite direction, shouting “hallelujah,” “hallelujah,” only to meet at the gates of water to form one choir and combine the effort of crying to the God.
Ezra, the scribe took the law and read to the congregation before the water gate of Jerusalem. From morning to midday, Ezra was interpreting the code to the people. The people cried on hiring the Gods command. Nehemiah courageously stood and commanded the people; it was the day of celebration and listening to the commandments of God and not the day of crying. People were selected among the city as singers and musicians for the dedication of the wall. The Levites and the priest prepared the people by purifying them. They divided themselves into two halves. One half went with Ezra, and the other half went with Nehemiah. Both went to opposite directions. They walked around the city upon the wall singing loudly, praying, and giving thanks to the lord.
Reflection
Referring to the text above, it is essential for a leader to pray for the workers or staff as Nehemiah did to the people of Jerusalem. This will enable them to work effectively and ease human labor in the organization. Also, a leader is responsible for leading ceremonious events in the organization. Just like Ezra leads the congregation in reading the law of God. In this regard, being a leader, I deserve to conduct and lead my team in all the celebration of the organization. This enables the workers to see them equally with everyone in the organization. Also, as a leader, I need not cry when the commands of the organization ae tough, and everyone is crying during an event. I should advise my team that it time for celebrations and not morning. Festivals and commitment bring the dead organization to live. Just as the city of Jerusalem was restored and people lived a lavish life. According to (Robertson (2016), celebrations enhance a pay it forward situation that helps in stimulating culture in the organization.
