Lessons from Ernesto Galarza

1.

Several volunteers teamed up to help the people who had different needs in Barrio, and Galarza happens to be one of them.(Galarza, 1964).He was a straight forward man that could be trusted and very honest and above all, kind heart and caring. It made the people of Barrio adore him. He also showed interest in helping the people of Barrio to the extent of going to the police, county hospitals to make sure the people are safe and well-taken care.

2.

Galarza had positive thoughts towards Miss Hopley, who was the principal and the whole teacher of Lincoln school in general.  Miss Hopley, together with her staff members, was so jovial and friendly. Apart from that, they were so loving and kind. Therefore Galarza had faith and trust in them that they were going to support him as far as academics are concerned. Hence their primary goal was to ensure he does well in his studies.

3.

Galarza views Americanization as having both positive and negative effects. On the negative side, one had to meet all the necessary qualifications of becoming an American citizen that include race, identity, and language. The immigrants experienced hard labor in the farms and those who were weak EXwere castaway. On the other side, it was of great importance since the lucky ones got a chance for better education. For instance, knowledge helped Galarza to become one of the great writers that made him be nominated to the Nobel price the year 1976..

4.

He was only eight years when he and the family moved to the States.(Galarza, 2014). In the states, he finds a new culture, and life is so hard that he had to work in the field while studying at the same time. Galarza is not well received well because of his race and ethnicity and due to the fact he did know English. He faces harassment and discrimination from the older students of American origin. However, he is well received by the teacher, especially the principal who was very tall and had a broad smile and so kind. It gave him courage, and he remains steadfast in his studies.
