Level of preventions
Preventions exist in three levels, which are primary, secondary, and tertiary. These terms have often been used in preventing and control health problems; they can as well be used in disaster preparedness and management. Disaster usually exists in three phases, with pre-impact being the period before the catastrophe. Pre-impact is the period when preparation and management take place. During disasters, the government and health department can intervene by providing drills towards disaster preparedness by discussing with community members how to improve at this time (Falkner, 2018). The other phase is the impact phase, a stage in which there is the actual occurrence of the disaster. Search, and rescues occur in this phase with a focus on survival. Medical care is also initiated. The final stage is the post-impact phase, which starts after the actual disaster. In this phase, medical care and rescue are critical and recovery, which can last for months commence here. The primary level can involve the construction of hospitals and safer buildings like the 2010 Haitian Earthquake (Nesbitt & Miks, 2019).
At the secondary level, prevention screening for tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, Zika, and diphtheria, among other health conditions for individuals involved in the Haitian Earthquake, will be necessary (Nesbitt & Miks, 2019). The screening occurs in the post-impact phase, where the focus is on medical care.
In tertiary prevention, my focus will be on treating conditions that were found in the screening process. Among the treatment plan include subjecting HIV positive people to antiretroviral and commencing medication regimen for TB patients. Another condition worth treating during this phase is hepatitis, depending on individuals strains (Falkner, 2018).
Among the organizations that I would with during this period include the CDC, WHO, Red Cross, and churches alongside other community-based support programs. Following the financial muscles of the above programs and companies, they will be in the position to assist me in initiating these preventive levels I have stated above.
