You are required to produce an individual report (word limit 1000 words) on ONE of the following topics. This report is worth 25 % of the marks on this module. The background research needed is linked to activities you will be asked to undertake in week 6.   1. Examine the consequences of Britain leaving the European Union to the financial sector in the City of London

As well as a summary of the overall economic advantages and disadvantages of Brexit concentrate on the following: changes in regulatory environment and access to customers; consequences for the skilled personnel; locational decisions of businesses represented in the City of London.   1. Explore how ‘global’ London’s labour market is.

After providing a brief historical background and short overall economic profile of London, including levels of unemployment, examine in more detail the following:  size and diversity of London’s labour force; international and national labour migration; income inequality inside and across the sectors.

 

  1. Analyse the state of the hi-tech sector in London and its connections with other businesses.

As well as offering a definition and an overview of general trends in the sector examine in detail the following: providers and business users of new technologies in London; foreign and British companies and local governance as influencers of hi-tech sector development.

Assessment Criteria:

  1. Appropriate length (no more than 1000 words, excluding Summary), format and structure.
  2. You must supply full references for all your sources.
  3. Your work should be grammatically sound; please proof-read or spell-check before submission.
  4. Evidence of adequate research and the use of an appropriate range of data sources and data presentation formats (graphs, charts, figures and tables, as relevant).
  5. Quality and originality of analysis, which focuses on the question requirements.
  6. A brief Executive Summary and Conclusion, each of no more than 250 words.
