Madison community hospital realized that the infection was mainly due to the doctors and nurses not washing their hands. This was after a case study that was done. The staff had a meeting to discuss the problem to prevent the infection in the hospital. They solved the problem of spreading the infection by learning on proper ways of washing their hands as they attend the patients. They started a process of ensuring they enforce sanitary habits and let their stuff undergoing self-policy. This paper will discuss several issues on quality improvement basics and information technology.
Stakeholders at healthcare systems are the entities that are likely to be affected by the reforms that are done in the system (Akinci,2012). They include the patients, government, pharmaceutical, insurance, physicians, and companies, among others. There exists an interrelation between two or more entities in the system. In this interrelation, there are different views in different entities like between patient and employer. A patient expects the employer to provide a variety of health packages. In a health care facility, the structure of the system, processes and outcomes interacts together to bring patient satisfaction and quality service provision. Their intention mainly is to reduce the cost of health services while improving the quality of health care. In achieving these, they introduced a conceptual model that interconnects outcomes of the three health care deliveries; quality, services and resources.
Total quality management helps companies in improving the quality of manufactured goods and services. It assists in the development, maintenance and deployment of the organizational systems in health care (Damani, 2019). Six sigma whereas is associated with improving programs and focusing on continuous quality improvements. Six sigma is deals with facts, data-driven and provides quantifiable, measurable results. Soon, six sigma will overtake total quality management. Both total quality management and six sigma are famously used in quality improvements, both small and large scale organizations.
Baldridge criteria provide a strategic framework organization that improves quality. It uses a criteria model called structure-out-comes framework, which includes leadership, strategic planning and the ones that focus on patients and other customers within the organization. Its main aim is to end the competition in the market.
Health care organization overuse can also be called overtreatment, for example, like getting surgery for the back pains. Health care organization misuse means the errors that occur and cannot necessarily harm the patient. It’s when the patient receives the wrong medication, for example, when you contract hospital-borne infection. Underuse means when there is a failure to deliver needed care when a patient is given less medication like a below-average percentage.
Health information systems improve the health of the patient and service providers, which results in cost-saving, quality service and greater patient engagement (Buchbinder, 2019. Information technology helps in determining the outcomes. Physicians and hospitals are the beneficiaries of the information innovation in health sector.
In 1990 the institute of medicine gave a report that information technology was essential for record-keeping and in 2000, another pressure wanted the industry to build a safer health care system, and this made an impact and prevented 98000 deaths due to the presence of clinical quality issues. There was an increase in information technology knowledge.
Computerized provider order entry is a system used to that orders all the patients’ services and is found in stage 4 of the electronic medical analytical record model. Jefferson needs to adopt a level 5 model called closed-loop medical administration
There are barriers when adopting information technology in the health sector, which include cost, time, absence of computer skills and workflow disruption. The cost of creating and supporting the system can be expensive. Time may take longer for users to learn the systems. It can also be challenging to operate the systems with little knowledge of computer knowledge
As a manager in the health sector to protect the patients’ medical privacy, I will organize mind-set across the employees, turn remote access to be a competitive advantage.
