MANAGEMENT AND PSYCHOLOGY
This assignment will allow students to continue demonstrating their ability to construct a senior quality research paper. Students will demonstrate their skills in conceiving a thought and following it through to completion. This research paper is the main objective of this course. The purpose of the paper is to select a topic or a problem that you see in society that can be approached from different interdisciplinary concentrations. For example, one student whose concentrations were education and social work demonstrated her use of education and/or social work in this research paper. You may pick a topic of your own interest (for example, social isolation of people with COVID 19), but one that is also related to your concentration in Interdisciplinary Studies. One way of accomplishing this task is to survey the topics or chapters in your previous courses and the chapters in your readings from this class. Look for a few topics of your interest and then select one that you really want to do a research on. When choosing the topic, follow the directions that have been included in this assignment; design the topic, describe the problem, the purpose of your research, the relevant of your research (why this research topic is important to society), the questions your research would like to respond, and how your research questions would be resolved within your concentration. The best research is that which responds to the societal issues or problems. Here is an example of what this assignment is looking for: Proposed Research • Topic: (for example: The advantages and disadvantages of ethnocentrism in Society) • Problem: There is a seemingly understanding in society that ethnocentrism is always a negative word and a way of life; that people always judge others based on the way they themselves view the world. • Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this research is to find out if in fact ethnocentrism is always negative; it is to find out whether there is any aspect of ethnocentrism that is positive. • Relevance of the Study: This study is relevant to sociology and to the society in the following manner: [unique_solution]o The study is relevant to sociology because ethnocentrism is one of the social aspects that the discipline of sociology studies, especially when looking at culture and inequality. o It is relevant to society in that when applying critical thinking, individuals should analyze concepts from a multiplicity of ways, regardless of how a concept has been viewed traditionally. A society that does not accept a review and revision of its norms may be subject to losing a campus of their direction and advancement. • Research Questions: This research will attempt to respond to the following questions. It’s possible that other research questions will come along in the process that will be included or will lead to adjustment of the present research questions. o How has society defined and viewed ethnocentrism traditionally? o In what ways does ethnocentrism contribute to the negative view of people in society? o How have other people suggested how ethnocentrism could be addressed in society? o If so, what did they find, and what criticism did they get, if at all? o What are the advantages of analyzing things from a multi-dimensional way, critical thinking? o What new aspect does this study contribute to the way people view ethnocentrism? • Resolve the problem: Using your interdisciplinary concentration, how would this problem be resolved? Format: Your research should yield a 6 to 10 page-double-space-content-page paper using the APA style throughout. Although not included in the page count, you must include a cover page and a References page (make sure you include reference from your reading material in this class. This goes without saying but make sure you have in-text citations. Remember, if it is not your own thought, include a citation. Take time to organize your thoughts and develop a clear and coherent paper. Deadline: The paper, and all assignments must be submitted on the due date to earn all points. Assignments that do not meet deadline may not be included in the final determination of your final grade. (My concentrations are Management and Psychology)
