Introduction

Management, managers, and organization are intertwined consents with distinct meanings and applications in the business context. The organization forms the setting where managers carry out their management activities. The primary role of managers is to lead the human resource and resource materials to drive the organization towards the desired goal. Management seems simple but rather a complicated task. However, management activities are more straightforward compared to some of the “simple” functions in the business field. Management skills and experience ease the work of managers by fostering efficient exploitation of resources and realization of the desired goal. Article one:  The 10 Golden Rules of Effective Management by Jayson DeMers (January 11, 2016)

In this article, DeMers start by saying that virtually all career have managerial concepts that must be performed by professionals. Precisely, he states that all entrepreneurs are managers. However, he says that professional managers are more special than other “managers.” According to DeMers (2016), management is more than driving the human resource of an organization to work harder or smarter. He warns that pushing the employees to work harder is inappropriate because it can lead to disloyally, disunity, or rebellion in the organization. He goes ahead by listing ten management rules that every manager should follow. According to him, a manager should be consistent. By stating this, DeMers (2016) means that management practices must be consistent before achieving the desired managerial goals of the organization. The second management principle listed by the author is focusing on accuracy, clarity, and thoroughness when communicating with other employees. The eventual success of the organization depends on how the manager speaks with the team. Other principles listed in the article are rewarding and recognizing hard work, leading with example, being transparent, motivating the team members, and listening and asking appropriate questions where necessary. DeMers (2016) sums up his article by stating that these principles differentiate professional managers from the rest.

Why Is Good Management Essential in the Workplace? by Cynthia Measom

In the above article, Measom (2020) starts by saying that synergy is a crucial concept in all managerial practices in the business field. Synergy means working collaboratively through cooperative interactions. Managers are required to nurture a dynamic relationship between team members to attain their administrative and organizational goals.  According to Measom (2020), a skilled manager is like a catalyst that mobilizes, strengthens, and champions their skills and the skills of the employees to attain the required goals. The author proceeds by outlining managerial practices. The first administrative practice described by Measom (2020) is meeting communication expectations. According to him, the manager should remind the employees what the organization expects to form them. In this regard, a good manager should convey their expectations clearly to ensure that the employees understand them. Secondly, Measom (2020) states that a manager should guide and assist the employees in doing their work. Employees always look upon the managers for guidance and assistance. Hence, failing to guide or assist the employees is a managerial weakness. Measom (2020) also states that a manager should always motivate and encourage the employees in all circumstances. Error is prone to employees because most of them work under intense situations and pressure. In this regard, the manager should always encourage them to continue with their “good” work. Besides the above managerial practices, the article state that professional managers should offer objective judgment based on the output of employees as a team (Measom, 2020). While doing so, the manager should empower the employees to create a sense of value and resolve disputes among them.

The Role and Responsibilities of a Manager by John Reh (November 15, 2019).

In this article, Reh (2019) starts by emphasizing the essence of managers in an organization. According to Reh (2019), managers are a strong pillar in an organization because they shape not only the culture of the organization but also of the employees and the workplace in many ways. The author notes that managers play both the administrative and leadership roles in an organization. However, he hints that not all leaders nor administrators can be managers because one requires a diverse set of skills to be a manager. Nonetheless, he affirms that management is a significant work in an organization because it serves as a breakthrough to organizational success. Progressively, the author states that the organizational structure is hierarchical. In this sense, Reh (2019) means that the organizational structure defines various roles and relationships between one job position to the next. Critical areas in the organization include the managerial, CEO, Vice President, and the director. These posts are arranged from the top downwards. All the positions except the manager are stationed.

Interestingly, he notes that the manager ensures the wellbeing of everybody in the organization, including employees that hold more prominent positions than his. Hence, the work of a manger is well spread across the organization. The author stresses that the work of a crib in an organization rammers from hiring and staffing at the extreme lower level to planning and articulating the organizational goals. This article is not only informative but also elaborative. For example, the author notes that there are various types of managers, one of them being the line manager. Reh (2019) concludes by stating that the manager is also tied to the “span of control,” which dictates the number of people that reports to his office directly. Finally, the author lists leadership, communication, finance, collaboration, and critical thinking as crucial management skills.

The Definition of Organizational Management by Kimberlee Leonard ( August 27, 2018)

Leonard (2018) starts his article by briefing about business success and its relationship to managers. According to the authors, business success depends on thoughtful and well-articulated plans. Leonard defines the concept of organizational management as the process of leading the organization and decontrolling and using corporate resources effectively. However, he notes that management is not as brief as most people things as it goes beyond the cooperative structure of the company (Leonard, 2018). Precisely, managers must have approaches that are strategically located to solve problems and nurture solutions that drive the organization towards the desired objectives. Progressively, the author stresses the close relationship between management and organization by stating that the two concepts are linked with leadership practices within the organization. The structure of the organization is designed in a way that supports the flow of information from one level to another (Leonard, 2018). Notably, the managers are responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of information within the organization.

Further, Leonard (2018) states that managers play a critical role in formulating and implementing organizational design and structure. Hence, managers and organizations are united. In conclusion, the author notes that a manager is a leader in the manager. Essential leadership skills held by an organizational manager include directive, visionary, coaching, and pacesetting (Leonard, 2018).

Reasons for Choosing the Articles

The four articles whose summaries are provided above were chosen because they contain elaborate information about managers, management, and organizations, which form the basis of this course. In this regard, all of them relate to the topic under discussion 9managemnt). Besides, the organization structure and top positions such managers have always been my areas of interest. The third reason for choosing the articles was that they were not only readily available but also relevant and updated. Finally, all the sources summarized above are reliable.

Conclusion

To sum up, the four articles summarized above have enriched me with adequate knowledge about management, managers, and organizations. I have learned that the three concepts, manager, management, and organization, are inseparable. Mostly, a manager plays a critical role in the organization. I have also learnt that good managers drive the organization to success by applying leadership skills. Finally, yet importantly, I have discovered that while managers use leadership and administrative skills, not all leaders nor administrators can be managers because a manager has specific managerial skills.
