How the software selection process works
The EHR selection process is the most crucial phase of implementing a new EHR system. The EHR effective selection process involves the information gathering process. The information-gathering process will enable the implementation team to establish the selection criteria that would incorporate inputs from various stakeholders in the facility in order to come up with a comprehensive list of EHR features that would work for the facility’s goals and objectives (Health Technology information, 2016). After the team prepares the list of EHR with desirable features applicable to the facility, it will create a list of EMR systems that would meet the selection criteria. The team will first conduct a Requirement gathering to determine the EHR system requirements and to evaluate the EHR vendor.
What contract negotiations should involve and include
The contract negotiations that would be included between the EHR vendor and the team are standard form EHR contracts, negotiation strategy used, technical advice, and example contract terms. What will be the role of the IT manager in the Department?
The IT manager is the backbone of the EHR implementation team. The planning, designing selection development, implementation, and testing of a new EHR system are complicated procedures that need someone who has experience in the implementation of EHR and background of technology (Health Technology information, 2016). The IT manager will coordinate and facilitate every phase of EHR implementation, and therefore, he or she will act as a reference point during the implementation process.
What role will a Strategic Planner take in the process?
The strategic planner will ensure that the new system meets the strategic goals and objectives of the facility during the EHR implementation process. For the new EHR system to perform better in protecting the patient’s information, it should align with the objectives of. It will be the role of the strategic planner to ensure the system strategically meets the needs of the facility.
How will the system be financed?
The biggest problem for the implementation of new EHR in the organization is the cost (Bullard, 2016). With the hope that the new EHR system will work accordingly to improve the operation of the facility, we will use bank loans to acquire the new system as the healthcare would start receiving $44,000 from Medicare and $63,750 from Medicaid over fives for investing in EHR.
How will needed changes come about after the new system is up and running
After the implementation of the new EHR system, the required modifications will come about through increased patient engagement, reduced waiting times of patients, increased health engagement of the community, improved performance of the health providers, and increased returns of the healthcare. The system show also reduces medical errors as well as lower costs within healthcare (Deokar & Sarnikar, 2016).
What will upgrades and new modules be added to the system?
The upgrades and new modules that will be added to the system include promoting care coordination, offering product modularity and configurability, reducing cognitive workload, promoting data liquidity, and facilitating the use of digital and mobile equipment by the patients and healthcare staff (Deokar & Sarnikar, 2016).
How does the facility handle suggestions by staff that use the system?
After the implementation of a new EHR system, staff will have suggestions on how the new system should be used. The facility will handle the employees’ recommendations on the use of the system through the use of questionnaires. The questionnaires will have open-ended questions to ensure that each and each employee is allowed to contribute.
How does the facility train new employees and provide an ongoing training program for existing staff?
Training is a necessity after the implementation of a new EHR program in a facility. Whenever there is a new program implemented, all the new employees recruited to the facility go through a three-week training on how to use the program in performing their duties ((Deokar & Sarnikar, 2016). After the training, each new employee is given an experienced person for a week to help the employee understand the system practically.
For the existing employees, training in the facility takes the form making the employees accept change. The employees need to be shown the importance of the new system over the old program and what has exactly changed. Afterward, the employees are practically trained on how to use the new program for two weeks.
