marijuana cannot be legalized
The thought that marijuana sales and use among teenagers could be combated through making it legal is ill-advised and an illusion. It is like making the liquor store open for an alcoholic and expecting them to not drink or instead stop drinking habits along the way. The move to legalize marijuana will serve as a tool for bringing the drug closer to teenagers. In fact, the users will have an increased rate of episodes of smoking marijuana when they now do it freely. Now that some people believe that giving the smokers freedom to continue to do so will reduce the interest of the sellers, instead, more sellers of the drug will come on board now that is legal. It is due to the fact that the rate of unemployment is continuously becoming a sore to the development of our people. The unemployed youth, those that had initially had fears over the same will now come out in large numbers to venture into the business, given that it will be the number one trending in the society. For this good reason, marijuana cannot be legalized, lest everyone in the community join the bandwagon in smoking for recreation, which will be a very detrimental circumstance.
It is also argued that one of the reasons for legalizing marijuana is that criminalizing it goes against the rights of individuals to achieve liberty and freedom of making their own preferable choices. The government and the lawmakers have the sole responsibility of ensuring that each and every individual in the country is living in a manner that they are safe. Criminalizing marijuana is not just due to it being a drug but due to the risks that come along with smoking it. The people that are around smokers and who don’t smoke are also at risk of violence since marijuana has been implicated with violence. If everyone in the country becomes violent and turn into monsters, there will be chaos and even killings. When it reaches this point, it will be concluded that the government has failed the country. To avoid this, the government has put in place laws that will regulate and curb the use of these illegal substances. Revoking some of these laws will mean the end of freedom for non-smokers in the country.
It is also argued that marijuana is a recreational drug that is used in social gatherings and enhances social interactions. Some even believe that legalizing marijuana in the country will increase revenue from tourism since tourists will visit the country to have the freedom to smoke marijuana in the case of illegalities back in their countries. The state will be making a colossal mistake in legalizing the hard drug. What is the point of making a handful of people happy while putting the lives of millions of other people on the line? Marijuana cannot be a tool for socializing at any cost. Most criminal activities in the country are carried out by people who smoke marijuana. Most rape cases are also by addicts of marijuana. Marijuana gets into the nerves of an individual and starts controlling them. Telling people that it is a social tool, is a broad lie. Recreational activities can be done in many other ways other than by smoking marijuana. It is just an excuse to change what is already illegal to be legal by instilling false hope on people.
It is also thought that marijuana is no different from the rest of the legal drugs such as caffeine, tobacco, alcohol, and so on. What these proponents omit in their argument is that marijuana is a different substance compared to the other drugs
Marijuana is dangerous, and it is not about it being illegal, but about its intrinsic nature. Legalizing this product will promote its usage regardless of its adverse effects, and usage of the drug with also increase due to vast availability in the society. The most affected subgroup of people to be significantly affected will be the youths, with the majority being teenagers. Studies show that when a person starts taking marijuana at a tender age, they continue to do so into their adulthood. A person who has not been exposed to marijuana until twenty- one (21) years of age will likely not attempt the drugs in their adulthood. The bottom line is, ‘marijuana should never be legalized in any given circumstance.’
