Summary

“What Love Should Do With It” is a biography movie about singer Tina Turner. The movie begins with the fact that Anna May Block is a little girl singing in the church choir and singing with a soul greater than anyone else. This is the first time she has seen Anna’s talent. When Anna May is a young adult woman, she leaves the late city of Nat Bush in Tennessee and moves to St. Louis with her mother who abandoned her baby. Anna is a soft and discreet young woman. She first sees Eiktana in a club where he and his band play well. Ike gives young women the opportunity to go on stage and sing. When Ike first appears on the screen, he looks attractive and polite. Anna has the opportunity to sing with a group of Ike and surprise him, she screams, this is not something anyone can imagine from this little discreet woman. Ike immediately begins to instruct Anna to do this. He needs permission from his mother. With her mother’s consent, Anna spends all her time with Ike, singing in groups, and even begins moving to a house where she lives with her current wife and children. As a result, Ike’s wife attempts suicide, knowing that something is happening between Ike and Anna. Then find the true nature of the hike that doesn’t seem to be bothered by his wife’s attempted suicide. His only concern is himself.

After this incident, Ike begins a relationship with Anna and begins turning Anna into a star. Anna becomes pregnant a few minutes after the child’s birth. Ike wants Anna to leave the hospital and start the tour. Anna May Block has become Tina Turner. During the tour, Anna tells Aika that she is tired. This makes it verbally aggressive and aggressive against Tina.

As Tina’s star rises, Ike becomes increasingly jealous and aggressive towards her. Ike is dreaming of becoming a megastar, but Tina is a star, and a music producer wants to work with her instead of Ike. Ike begins to physically physically laugh at Tina in front of her bandmates, friends, and children. Nobody says anything. Tina eventually gets tired of the abuse, collects things and children, and tries to leave Ike. Her mother even insists she is with him because he provides financial stability to the family. Soon, Ike began using powerful drugs, which made him more violent and aggressive. Towards the end of the movie, Tina visits a former backup singer and girlfriend named Jackie. Jackie left because she could not stand the verbally abusive Ike character. Tina and Jackie share some laughs about Ike’s bad behavior. The joke goes too far when Jackie sc laughs at how Ike talks to Tina. Jackie notices that Tina has been hurt and abused by squid, apologizes to Tina, and shares a Buddhist chant with her.

Tina starts singing herself. And you can see her strength begin to grow. The pinnacle of the movie is that Ike is trying to physically insult Tina in a limousine. This is the only time Tina resists. This scene depicts Tina trying to regain power. Ike and Tina became bloody and hurt. Upon reaching the hotel, Ike advises Tina to go to the bathroom and tidy. Then Ike falls asleep, and Tina leaves the hotel room and leaves the squid forever. He tries to overcome the threat of violence and regain her, telling her that he has changed and is no longer using drugs. Tina refuses to resume living with him during the divorce process. Tina only asks for the name Tina Turner. This is to show that Ike no longer controls her life. Ike is obviously upset, but the judge is satisfied with Tina’s demand for her name and becomes an international superstar without Aina. The movie ends with real Tina Turner singing the song “What Love Is For Her”

Types of domestic violence in movie

Domestic violence can take many forms. The movie “What Is Common with Love” has verbal abuse, physical abuse, and financial abuse. Ike scares, humiliates, and hits Tina throughout the movie. He receives the money they earn as a duet, uses it as he wishes, and uses it as a means of controlling everyone around him, including Tina’s mother. It seems that no one in Tina’s life, including Tina, could understand the depth of control of Ike, who claims to be physical, psychological and economic. Ike’s loving behavior may seem to make up for abuse. “A common type of domestic violence is for perpetrators to replace violence, insults, and apologies with changes in sincere commitments.

This love is only part of the insult cycle. “Proud Mary”, one of Ike and Tina’s most successful songs, quietly reveals the relationship between Ike and Tina at the beginning of the song, Tina says. We never do good or easy things. Always do it beautifully and rusticly. Impact of violence on the main character

Fross, a trusted friend of Ike, knows Ike’s insult and says nothing, Tina’s mother knows, and encourages Tina to stay for her family. Jackie, Tina’s backup singer, is the only brave enough to challenge Ike and tell Tina about her abuse. Looking at Tina’s smiling face and her bold face reveals that the violence has swallowed her whole.

Theoretical explanation of domestic violence

The theoretical explanations for domestic violence are environmental theory, psychosocial theory, and sociocultural theory. Psychosocial theory is most relevant to movies. According to Module 1, cognitive and social learning theorists conclude that “violence is assimilated to aggressive behavior aggravated by a lack of punishment” (University College of Maryland, n.d.). Ike was not punished for her abusive nature. In fact, he was rewarded for the success of Ike and Tina. According to this theory, the potential for damage states that complex life events affect our virtual world, disrupting the psychological and biological mechanisms of survival. This is never implied in the movie, but it is clear that Ike has a family problem. At some point upset for Tina, he says: Maybe his parents left close relatives like Tina. Psychological trauma can impair functioning, cause helplessness, and make it difficult to control intimacy. Abuse and trauma victims often experience stressful living events such as panic attacks, anger, loss of self-esteem, addiction problems, and emotional problems, recreating past traumatic events Some people try. Instead of alerting her mother about Tina’s whereabouts, she should have been helping to find resources to leave Ike and leave him forever. This moment is important because Tina decided she needed to leave Ike and nobody suggested to make this choice. Tina eventually confronts Ike, but physically fights him before leaving. This was not the safest way; he could get angry and kill her. In situations of domestic violence, it is important to assess the situation first to increase safety
