My Career about being a Nurse Practitioner
Subsequently, what are the necessary requirements for one to become a nursing practitioner? Which are the vital qualities that these experienced colleagues have to portray? These are the questions that I have always asked myself and the following are the vital qualities for a nurse practitioner.
The first quality I will discuss on is empathy. Nurse practitioners have the ability of being sensitive to how others feel. “Caring is the real meaning of nursing” Jean Watson. They try by all means to understand the condition of their patients and this makes me remember my mother’s implication when she always reminds me to try put myself in someone’s’ shoes when the same person is in a problem. “When I imagine about all my patients plus their relatives that have received my services for many years, I am sure most of them cannot remember me, but am sure I gave each patient a piece of my life to each of them and all these make a beautiful tapestry in my life of thought in my nursing career” Donna Wilk Cardillo. Empathy is the major characteristic to posses in order to become a thriving nurse practitioner. Our family nurse narrated to me that empathy allows the nurse in practice to understand the feeling of the patient at hand and immediately give a consistent response that is genuine of good medical care and wellbeing of the sick. Empathetic persons do listen more and talk less and always inspire mass achievement and change in the society. “Nurses give out consolation, empathy, and caring with no prescription” Val Saintsbury.
