            My Personal values

A person’s values play an essential role in influencing their decision on the behavior to choose. Besides, personal values influence one’s decision on how to live. Personal values, which are associated with the concept concerning the factors that influence one’s beliefs, thinking, and behavior, plays a critical role in determining individual behavior, how one relates with others as a group or in an organization. Individuals possess a set of values, whether knowingly or unknowingly, which influences their way of life and behavior. It is essential to choose and understand personal values since they play a vital role in shaping the way one behaves or live. As for me, personal ethical values such as reliability, respect, kindness, commitment to personal development, desire to succeed, empathy, and compassion are some of the individual values that play a critical role in shaping my behavior.

Personal values are critical in influencing a person’s behavior (Suar & Khuntia, 2010). My core values show a correlation with the beliefs of commitment towards succeeding in various life endeavors. I believe that relating well with others, appreciating diversity, and respecting the views of other individuals is fundamental towards achieving set goals in diverse life endeavors. Personally, being successful in the workforce is a desire that always guides my behavior. Arguably, it was one of the factors that influenced my career decision. As such, I consider respect as a value that plays an essential role in dictating the levels of success realized. For example, I believe that respect in the workplace is a crucial factor that translates to success when engaging in professional endeavors. Respecting others leads to cooperation and ultimate success in the workplace (Fehr & Fischbacher, 2004). My behavior, when relating to others, reflects such personal value. I always respect other person’s point of view regardless of their ethnicity, race, political, or religious affiliations. Arguably, the value has translated to the success realized when dealing with various life endeavors that I have encountered.

The aspect of family, kindness, and honest are similarly some of the personal values that shape my behavior. Right from my childhood, my grandparents, close family members, and parents taught me on the essentiality of living as a family and evidencing kindness towards others, especially during their time of need. Such values have shaped my behavior. I now understand the essentiality of a family and the importance of kindness in transforming society. When I go through the streets, I am always kind towards the beggars and other needy persons. Besides, I am always kind and assist the aged members of society. Similarly, honesty is a core value that significantly influences my behavior. Honesty refers to a moral character reflected by ones virtuous and positive attributes, such as being straightforward and truthful (Ianinska & Garcia-Zamor, 2006).  When I was young, my parents always emphasized on the need to have honesty. Even though I couldn’t understand and appreciate their advice, I now know how important it is to remain honest when relating to others in society. Honesty is a core value that I associate with my academic success. I always avoid cheating in the exam, thus influencing me to work hard and be prepared for my exams.

In short, core values play a critical role in shaping a person’s behavior. Individuals’ actions are influenced by their values, either knowingly or unknowingly. When I reflect on my decisions and behavior, I appreciate that personal values are at the centre of anything that I do and believe. Kindness, honesty, respect, and desire to achieve life goals are some of the personal values that influence my behavior. My way of relating with others and motivation towards achieving life goals are influenced and shaped by such personal values.
