My shopping and online browsing history are being used for predictive analytics through transactional data. Transactional data is a factor that assists scientists in foretelling the buying behaviors of people, and it consists of online data. The online data has essential information such as the number of people who had a look at a particular product or products, and which website they visited in the process of their research about the product in question. Comments and the results which, many people give online concerning the products are useful for use in analyzing and predicting how effective online shopping will be. Browsing history helps in the analysis of data in a bid to understand and know the most regularly visited sites, and those that are not. Online shopping targets looking at experiences that are engaging by the retailers since they can use it for prediction of what the customers want and device ways of making it available to them.
Predictive analytics is an inevitable part of our society, and it should not be restricted. We are living in a technological era where many activities take place online. It helps a company recommend helpful offers to customers that enable them to save money (DeZyre, 2016). Many people want to do their shopping online and order the companies in question to deliver the products they need for their homes. It is one way of cutting on costs of traveling and having to move in different places in a bid to look for products.
An ethical dilemma refers to a problem where an individual is required to choose between an immoral and moral act (Tota & Shehu, 2012). I can see an ethical dilemma in customer privacy because once they make a particular purchase online, it is not easy to tell if they liked the product they are buying or loved the product’s brand (DeZyre, 2016).
