my time pursuing the Master of Science in Project Management

Project management, as has exposed me to new experiences which have enabled me to gain new insight into the various ways of how I can apply the broad knowledge into any project that deals with management. The program has proved to be a new experience for me, in a different point of views from the professional view to the personal learning point of view. For the entire period that I have dedicated my time and resources to committing t the program, I have realised that the program has built me in a very positive way; since it has enabled me to learn various personal experiences which range from time management, family responsibility, a balance between the school and work life. Besides, there are some professional experiences which I also gained from the program; I found some classes to be so much relevant to my professional life, and they have as well enabled me to learn certain critical skills which would later become handy in my prospective career. Moreover, there are some other more insights which I could not have gained if I could not have joined the program. Therefore, my time pursuing the Master of Science in Project Management has proved to be s much beneficial to me because it has enabled me to build myself professionally and socially.

Personal Experiences

Throughout my studies, I have come to realise that the program has been of many benefits since it has built me socially by enabling me to learn on how I can manage my time, on how I can become responsible as a family man and, on how I can strike a balance between my school life and work life. On time management, I have come to learn several ways on how I can become a productive individual through time management. Besides, KI has come to realise that the best way to become fully productive is to learn and master the art of time management; because time is the sole determinant of how productive an individual can become. People who are good at proper time-management tend to be so prosperous due to the productivity that comes with it and on the other side, people who are not good at the art of managing their own time tend to be in the last rank of productivity. Therefore, the difference between the two kinds of individual, the less prosperous and the most prosperous, deeply lies in how much someone can manage his or her time (Gray et al. pg 10). Through this program, I have to learn the importance of managing one’s time and how that can come with many benefits. As a result, this has enabled me to be an individual who is time-conscious something which will put me ahead of the rest in terms of productivity-even in the workplace.

Family responsibility, as another important aspect of life, is what I can count myself lucky on since the program had stressed so much on this that I had to get my head around the fact of being an individual who is responsible when it comes to family matters. First, l have come to learn the importance of having family around; because in every society, a family is a basic unit which can either build or destroy an individual. Therefore, the fact that the program enabled me to learn the importance of one’s family is lone of the critical values which I came to realise from the program. There are many relevant lessons which I have come to benefit from, through my passing through this program of Project Management. Some of the key lessons which I have come to learn through the program is the fact that family is all that need be put as the priority before everything. Being a leader in any project, with all the tasks armed towards beating the deadlines, ensures that an individual becomes so proficient in taking the lead thus, even if the person becomes a family person then running the family even alone would not be a hard task (Cooper et al. pg. 4). This is a lesson which I have drawn from the reality and responsibilities which comes with being involved in a project team; since through this involvement, every individual is given a task and the fact that I had been tasked with doing things my way, with little to no supervision. This has enabled me to become o responsible since it has proved to me that productivity comes with the effort that I put in being so responsible in all that I get myself engaged at. Ultimately the Project Management program has Moulden me into an individual who shall get the transition to be so smooth in family matters; I have already drawn responsibility skills which shall enable me to be so responsible as a family member.

Life balance, especially the perfect balance between school commitments and work, has proved to be so hard for many individuals that many people end up failing in either of the two. For instance, it is so easy for an individual’s work to suffer when much effort is channelled in schoolwork; At the same time, to them who tend to channel much energy in their school work, it becomes evident that their work-life tend to suffer (Martinez pg. 2). Therefore, it is worthwhile to master the art of striking a perfect balance between the two, because they matter in equal measures. Striking a balance between school life and work life is an aspect that I would not have easily learned, were it not for the skills that I learnt from the program as I pursue my further studies. I will apply the lessons which the program of Project Management has instilled in me; the fact that I juggled between doing projects pursuing some theoretical units of the course at the same time proved essential in building my capability in multitasking and switching between task. Getting the projects done and other core units of life achieved, concurrently, shapes an individual who is so able to divide time between multiple tasks that striking the perfect balance between work and school seem not to be a big deal; managing the balance cannot be so much hard of a task since some other lessons like time management shall as well tend to a contributing factor in ensuring a proper balance. The program has enabled me to come up with strategies which would, easily, allow me to maintain the balance between the two without any distraction which can make one suffer. Through the program, the fact that it has equipped me with strategies like coming up with daily planner and setting priorities has enabled me to improve on weighing out the pros and cons of whatever I am yet to get engaged. Thus, it has become so important that I now know how to prioritise my activities and keep them updated so that I can manage to balance both the school and work commitments.

Professional Experiences

I have had a diverse experience from whatever I have learnt in this program since there are various classes which I found to be so relevant to my professional life. This relevance has been achieved through some of the classes which fed me with the appropriate skills which are so relevant in the modern job market. One class which prove to be so relevant with my professional life, in the prospective future, is the class which deals with Fundamentals of project management and Other tools for career development. These fundamentals shall enable an individual to have a deeper grasp of the various techniques and skills together with the tools which are necessary for any successful management and delivery of programs and projects (Munns and Bassam, pg. 8). Besides, it shall ensure that, in the job market, I get to have a benchmark of project management competence which would enable me to be among the competent professionals who stand out from the rest of the crowd- many of which shall not have the sufficient competency. Moreover, the Project Management program has played a vital role in my professional life since it has given me the preparation to advance within my career. At the undergraduate level, there are certain proficiencies which I never chance upon but, upon furthering my studies I have made an advancement and investment in my knowledge of project management; I now have a stronger understanding in my field, something which has boosted the level of my expertise thus, shall enable me to make further advancement in my career in terms of proficiency and rank.

Classes of Project Management has enriched me with a myriad number of lessons, which are very necessary for anyone who is in the profession of project management. In every project, I have come out with new lessons learnt which shall be so beneficial in my daily duties and responsibilities. Majority of these lessons are attributed to through the various processes of performing projects; this has made it so easy to learn from my own experiences and the other experiences which are withdrawn from other colleagues. I have, therefore, come to learn some important innovative approaches which are required of every project manager. Besides, the fact that I have learnt the good working practices is so vital in my professional life since it would enable me to keep rapport with my colleagues at the place of work, for collaboration and productivity in whatever task we get engaged in doing. These lessons shall prove imperative in the future because they would allow me to improve on future projects no matter how complexed they shall appear to be. Moreover, I am now well equipped with the best strategies which are essential in managing and running projects; ranging from small, medium to large projects. As for what can be applied to ensure that I get enough support in reaching the peak of efficiency, getting financial, emotional support and committed members who can work together as a team would be so productive with regards to my effectiveness and efficiency.

My concentration, throughout the entire program, has been high; because I always believe that higher concentration is positively correlated to the productivity and benefits that an individual can come out with from a lesson. Before enrolling for the program, though I could be able to lead the project, my capability only ranged within the level of small project management. However, after I had enrolled in the program, I seem to b fully capable of leading any project regardless of its scale. The courses that I have taken in this program have put me at a place where I can now manage to lead projects, which had never been part of my capability before the program. These courses have enriched me with the effective skills which has enabled me to be an effective leader through the combination of competencies of managerial skills which shapes the managerial capabilities of an individual. Project leadership is not an easy role, because it requires a full package of competency and skills; therefore, the fact that my courses have equipped me with the right competencies and skills for leading projects is a great improvement in my professional life. In the field of project management, the combination of management and leadership is very key, since it is through the two that an individual shall get the capability of leading a huge project to fruition.

Soft skills are so vital in every workplace and for every professional; the program has enabled me to become so equipped with some of the soft critical skills which are so beneficial in every workplace. Possessing hard skills without the appropriate soft skills is not so sufficient in the job market, which has proved to be so competitive. Therefore, equipping oneself with the appropriate soft skills can be of great help to any professional. I have learned various soft skills, throughout the program; among the soft skills that I have learnt include the skill of leadership, proper communication, motivation and decision making. Al these soft skills can be productively integrated into my work as a project manager because they are all necessary for a productive work environment; both leadership skills, motivation, proper communication and decision making is essential for any project manager.

The learning experience of the program has helped me a lot, in such a way that would shape both my identity and professional life. I have undergone various major learning like proper time management skills, leadership and management skills which have reshaped my ability to be a competent leader and manager. The fact that I have, as well, come to learn some soft skills. As a project manager, my professional philosophy is to encourage the need of information-sharing to employ business goals and objectives which are clear. Some of my goals in the field of project management are to have my projects finished on time, become strategic and focus on leadership as I gain experience. For anyone interested in enrolling in the program of project management, my advice would be; get ready to learn and work in a group as a team.
