On the night of the twenty-second day of May, in 2017, the world was shaken by the sudden news that over 22 people had been killed and 59 more injured in a live concert that was Hosted by Ariana Grande in Manchester. Shocking as it may have seemed, the bomb took place right after the concert was over. During this Tim, Ariana was on her Dangerous Women World Tour. This Tour was mainly held as a campaign for empowering women, but the result of the Tour was quite sad and send shock waves to Music lovers across the world. Nonetheless, the famous RnB and pop music artists were able to hold another concert, well known as the One Love Manchester Tour to pay tribute to the lost souls of the Manchester 22 terrorists bombing attack.
A tribute concert, as it is well known, is a concert that is performed by other musicians to pay tribute to a dead person. It’s more of a concert of remembrance and generally celebrates a well-lived life. What better way to remember someone but through listening to some sweet music? Music has always been the lifeline of most individuals across the continents. Music not only entertains but also helps to bring people together in gatherings such as in concerts. An appreciation of music is, therefore, quite significant as an acknowledgment of life and appreciation of art in general. The most striking and fantastic part of the concert that I loved as I streamed it online was the fact that some of the artists performed acoustically and were mostly accompanied by their bands. The music period and style that was presented was the “Twentieth Century modern music. This type of music is primarily popular among youths and teenagers. The genre of music that was mostly featured included pop music, rock, hip hop, and RnB. Other renditions of musical art were also displayed in the concert. The general tempo of the songs that were played was melancholy to serve the purpose of paying the tribute. Nonetheless, there were other variations tempo, including Upbeat music and romantic songs, which were slower. The musicians that were featured in the concert included professional artists such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Black-eyed piece just but to mention a few. There were also notable groups and bands, such as little mix. Aside from the professional artists and musicians, there was also a choir of children who sang along with Ariana Grande.
The central theme of the concert was to spread love, peace, and acceptance. Therefore, the music aimed to Uphold this theme, artists such as Ariana Grande herself sang along with Victoria Monet songs that were meant to stop fighting and war. As two victims who were present during the performance and the bombing, they had their own story to share. They sing “Better days” was a true manifestation of fighting and how all the hatred and war could be stopped. The song was emotional just by watching it, and I could see that the audience was breaking down in tears as they remembered the lost lives in the tragedy. Justin Bieber also evoked the emotions of the audience with his singing and the chants he made on love and got the audience to participate. In my view, I think that the concert was a success and a true manifestation of art fused up with messages of love and peace. The concert was able to raise over twelve million dollars through donations. This money was used to help the victims of the tragedy; thus, it’s evident that music in this context was used for a good cause.
