Instructions
You need to work in groups of two (unless your tutor has instructed otherwise) and choose two countries, one developed or emerging, and one developing or frontier economy with your team member. Neither of these countries should be your home country. Research should be conducted in English. Get into the habit of following the economic news about these two countries using different news sources.[unique_solution]
After you chose two countries as a team, discuss this with your teacher during class so that you can check that you are going in the right direction, and in order to avoid too much overlap between different teams. After your teacher approves the countries you have chosen, continue with this assignment.
Examine the national economic performance in the countries you have selected by looking at economic growth, inflation, unemployment, and the current balance. How has economic growth been achieved? What are the main sectors that drive economic growth? Which country is performing better and why? (write no more than 500 words)
- Use figures from the past decade for the analysis.
- Take into account the global financial crisis and whether it has affected the country. GDP growth rates may vary around that time.
- What are the main sectors that drive economic growth in this country?
- It is recommended that you create your own graphs (using Excel or another tool) to illustrate your analysis.
You can use the following databases to find data:
- World Bank DataBank
- United Nations Database
- International Labour Organisation (ILO) Statistics and Database
- Other sources approved by your tutor
