new era of photo-shopped selfies
Introduction
In this new era of photo-shopped selfies and Dr. Miami enhanced booties, one must wonder what truly defines natural beauty. Some argue that waking up “flawless” is a full set of $200 lash extensions, blemish-free skin, and little-to-no makeup with a head full of weave. Others may argue that even if paid for, surgically enhanced faces and bodies are perfectly natural. Generally, beauty is deemed as a subjective topic, but I believe natural beauty is effortless subtle femininity. One that does not require anything added to enhance features, such as excessive makeup, obnoxious hair extensions, or silicone breasts or fat transferred derrieres. Because women choose to apply makeup does not mean they are not “naturally beautiful,” it is simply a personal choice to enhance what is already beautiful. But when a woman only appears aesthetically pleasing while in a full face of makeup, head full of someone else’s hair and layers of garments that hide her true physique, this I would not consider being a natural beauty. Therefore, I believe that natural beauty is as close to nature as possible without any alterations.
Additionally, I believe that nothing is wrong with wearing some makeup or being dressed in hair extensions. But still, staying close to nature is what I still consider to be ideal. Beauty not only lies on the outward appearance but the internal health of a person. Staying natural protects a person from the risks of being exposed to the contents of many beauty products, which can be harmful, particularly those which contain heavy metals and parabens, among other chemicals. Such chemicals may be found in commercial beauty products, some of which are referred to as beauty cures. Some of the beauty products have also been found to contain carcinogenic or cancer-causing elements or compounds such as free radicals. All these products can easily be absorbed into a person’s bloodstream after their use and can lead to serious health effects. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
On many occasions, the use of beauty products has damaged people’s skin interfering with natural skin and its health state. Many companies dealing in beauty products spend a lot of money to sell a myth where buyers only purchase a sense of security or safety without actually being safe and natural. On the contrary, the natural glow of a person’s beauty allows them to shine through the fakes or ‘artificials’ of human life. Adopting natural beauty provides the pageant with confidence, a positive state of their mind, and the capacity to be self-reliant. Natural beauty reminds a person that they own their lives and that it is owned by the photo-shopped models or the smart marketers who often make people feel less or inferior to promote and sell their fancy designed venom packed beauty bottles. By ridding one’s life if the artificial synthetic junk and staying committed to own natural beauty, the person starts appreciating priceless and genuine things which matter and attain real happiness. I, therefore, believe that to achieve the natural glow associated with holistic beauty, a person needs their pure skin and hair, a clean diet, and a happy mind.
Looking back at natural selection, it appears as if humans choose mates because of shallow reasons. However, Darwin postulated that the main reason behind natural selection is to find mates who are stronger and fitter than the rest and to produce healthier children. Charles Darwin pointed out that choosing mates does not happen by chance but is a deliberate process which involves many factors. Sexual selection, which is a type of natural selection, allows mates to be proficient in choosing mates with higher fitness. Selection happens when a person starts having preferences for another person of the opposite sex and who is showing certain traits. As a result, natural selection filters and gets rid of hazardous genetic mutations, thus helping to pass only the desirable characteristics to avoid extinction of the individual’s best features. I believe that with this in mind, it is essential to stay natural and not to expose our DNA, the biological molecules of inheritance, to chemicals which might contaminate it, change it and lead to undesirable characteristics that might be selected against through natural selection, leading to an extinction of some desirable features.
Many people outside Europe and the US often feel depressed because they believe they do not meet the European standards of beauty, which have dominated how the world defines beauty. There is currently a concept known as Eurocentric standards of beauty where the focus is put on the Caucasian or the European culture, which has been poised as the most ideal worldwide. Other factors like colonialism that took place in the 18oos further spread the European culture worldwide, lessening their values and perception of beauty. As a result, people outside the European beauty zone have gone the extra mile to provide themselves what they perceive as being beautiful, for instance, plastic surgery, the use of beauty products, hairdressing, and other products, taking away their natural beauty. What these people fail to understand is that the different cultures with their unique skin tone and color are all beautiful regardless of their race or country of origin. In conclusion, everybody, in their natural ways, without outer influence, is gorgeous.
