Newborn Addiction
Drug abuse is a contemporary issue in the entire world today. It is an issue of public concern that needs to be fought within all possible manners. In the video “Born Addicts: Drug-Addicted Babies in the United States,” the first instance I identified was a young mother who was testifying her drug abuse while pregnant. The mother says she at her 15 used pills. She had been in the use of marijuana and heroin during her pregnancy.
It was sad that when the baby was tested for an addiction he was found positive. The doctor shows the symptoms that such a kid reveals, which among them was frequent vomiting, poor feeding, excessive sucking, sneezing, and nasal stuffiness, among many others. This shows that the increased use of drugs can be attributed to the recklessness of young mothers or parents in society. It is something that can, however, be controlled and prevented from occurring for an innocent fetus.
Newborn with a drug addiction should be treated as a crime, and the victims involved need to be charged by the law. This will help to keep check of the mothers or parents abusing the rights of the children. From a broader perspective, it will help to curb increased drug abuse in society. The medical departments should help the government to get rid of the mothers abusing drugs while pregnant and legal steps taken to them. At the same time, for addictive mothers, they should be taken to the rehabs to protect the transition of the behaviors to their little ones.
The other case identified in the video is mothers who are already addicted. In this instance, it is wise to support them and dig deep to know the primary cause of them engaging in the use of drugs. This will help fight with the increased abuse of drugs in society. Such individuals can be used as an excellent example to the youth to help them remedy their behavior and the extended consequences of being involved in drug abuse. The government should launch an educational or awareness campaign for society to reach young parents and teach them the need to avoid the use of drugs during pregnancies. Likewise, the community should be advised to bring forth any noticed breastfeeding mothers using drugs to help solve the situation before the kid is affected. Most importantly, society should be taught how to support such parents to achieve reduced cases of drug addiction in society.
The other case in the video is the consequences of drug abuse to the fetus during pregnancy. Society should be made aware that drug abuse during pregnancy often leads to the delivery of deformed or disabled kids, something that can be avoided through counseling and supporting these young moms. However, the law should be put in place for the easy curbing of drug abuse in society among all individuals. The society should ensure to open places where such parents can be counseled to be back to their healthy lives and as well be able to bring up their kids.
The government, in general, should come up with homes where these kids can be taken care of as their moms recover from drug addictions. If such approaches are made, and the society unites to eliminate drug abuse, it will be easy to bring into the society responsible peoples. People should not hesitate to take the initiative or corrective measures to solve the situation once and for all in the shortest time possible.
