Non-fiction narrative
My name is (student’s name) and am aspiring to be a nurse. My career goal is to provide excellent patient-centred care and see their discharge and recoveries. As technology in the field of medicine continues to advance, I plan to adapt to these changes by continuing my education and becoming a neonatal nurse. I have always loved kids, especially infants, since they are so adorable yet so fragile and require specialized attention and care to grow into a bubbly and healthy being. My goals are to advance my education ad to become a certified nurse and work in the pediatric department of the hospital. (Burtson)
The first event that inspired me to enrol in a nursing college is seeing my neighbour’s child who was diagnosed with leukaemia at an early stage being given special attention and care by the nurses. I loved how empathetic the nurses were and was willing to help save the life of my neighbours child. When they went for an appointment, we could tag along with them since we were friends. I loved the experience in the hospital since it is all about saving lives. Seeing the parents happy after being told excellent progress about their child was one of the most fulfilling points in my life.
The second event is about a study that was broadcasted in the news showing there are few nurses in the country to counter the overwhelming number of patients. Nurses are forced to work longer hours which is tiresome and straining. This can affect their performance, and in the middle field, mistakes are not an option since they are dealing with people’s lives. I got inspired to enrol to college so as I can help out with these cases and be among the additional nurses that are taking care of our sick in the community.
The third event that inspired me is I was once sick and visit the hospital. The nurse that attended to me was not so friendly, and being a child; I was afraid of even opening up to her about how I felt. I remember telling my mum a feeling better we should go home, but in reality, I had a terrible stomach ache. I said to myself, being a nurse one needs to be caring and treat others with respect regardless of their age as it is the most ethical thing to do. I decided I will enrol as a nurse to make a difference in people lives and not because of a good paycheck.
From these three events, I got to learn more about me and my nature in relating to other people. I leant that I am selfless and love seeing people thriving on their own. I am an empathetic individual and wish the best for all people. Seeing a patient understand the disease they are suffering from and plan of action that the hospital intends to do for them is the best feeling. Restoring hope to patents who had lost it is one of the most fulfilling points in my career. Discharging a patient that had stayed in the hospital for long and has completely recovered gives me the motivation to become a better nurse. No one wants to see their loved ones suffer or in pain. It is my duty as a nurse to provide excellent service and devote myself to the service of others. Also being a Christian, I fell this profession is making me serve my purpose in life.
