Capstone: UBC Candy Company
I am a human resource coordinator in UBC Candy Company for the last five years. My primary duties include handling employees’ relations, maintaining employees’ records, assisting with performance management procedures, and coordinating training sessions. UBC is a candy manufacturing company which was founded by Peter G. in 1942. The company has two branches located in different states in the U.S.A. The company leadership is rigorous on employee performance as well as customer satisfaction. It recognizes employees turnover is low if they feel connected and appreciated. One of the branches is in Texas, and they were using an outdated performance management system.
I was assigned to lead a team in finding a better-automated system that would integrate the two branches. My duty as the leader was to chair the meetings and lead the company to acquire the best system which would run the company performance test for the next five calendar years. My involvement in the process was to demonstrate my leadership capability and expertise. I was to demonstrate the ability to coordinate and gather the necessary information effectively. The company’s performance principles guided the team, and we met with relevant vendors twice a week. In the meetings, we reviewed the set criteria, vendors’ proposals, and incorporated positive views from the members.
The team came up with a report detailing various proposals, company profiles, and portfolios. The team adapted the company performance guideline book to assess the best system. Some of the criteria recorded were system compatibility capability, intuitive user interface, scalability, data, and analytics. The team included available resource on the website. There was a need for understanding the environment in which the system would be implemented as well as the impact on staff. We organized a site survey to consolidate the staffs’ concerns in the transition of the automated system. The staff would need orientation on the new system.
The team selected five companies for reviews. Each company presented a clearly explained proposal of its system and the impact it would make to the company. The company that scored the highest based on the set criteria won the bid. The team selected Endeavor Company that offered an HR web-based system. The system was implemented on a proof of concept basis for one week. Besides the system emerging at the top of our list, the friendliness, and flexibility of the system stood out.
The team was trained on a crash course basis after which I selected two members to conduct training. The managers and the staff in Texas received training. There was positive feedback after the training from both the managers and the staff. The fact that the evaluation was fair and realistic the appraiser had more legitimate and relevant modules than before. “I liked the outlook user-friendliness. It is well customized and easy for me to use” Alicia said (HR Representative Texas). The whole process turned out to be a great success to the company and me. As a result, I got promoted to the position of an assistant HR manager.
Conclusion
The paper concentrates on the assignment given to me by the management in the procurement and implementation of an automated HR system. The techniques used were based on the guidelines in the company’s book, online and opinions gathered from the team. Together with a team, I was able to demonstrate my organizational skills and ethical principles when selecting the system for the company.
