            All parents desire to see their children succeed in life, and therefore, parents adopt different styles for raising their children. Social and economic factors have been found to influence the upbringing of children. Studies have shown that socioeconomic factors have a close relationship with the parenting style. Parents employ parenting style to their children depending on the social and economic status of the parents in the community. Common parenting styles include the authoritarian parenting style, authoritative, and neglectful parenting styles. The parenting style adopted depends on the socioeconomic status of the parents, and each parenting style has particular implications in the character development of the children.

The parenting article reviewed the literature to establish how parenting style relates to the socioeconomic status of the parents (Kelly M. Fox, 2000). The review showed that most of the poor mothers tend to use an authoritative parenting style to their children. Poor parents expect much obedience, and they use physical punishment to their children, and they are less supportive in terms of basic needs provision to their children. The review also revealed that working-class parents impose behavioral rules to their children, hence adopting authoritarian parenting style to their children (Kelly M. Fox, 2000). The review in the article also showed that low-class socioeconomic status parents encouraged autonomy among their children. The article describes how the research was conducted to establish the relationship between the parenting style and the socioeconomic class of the parents.

The study in the article was aimed to establish how parenting style depends on the socioeconomic factors. Also, the study sought to find the implications of different parenting styles to the behavior of the children (Kelly M. Fox, 2000). Questionnaires were used to collect data from thirty participants where fourteen were males, and sixteen were females. The participants were university students with different economic status (Kelly M. Fox, 2000). The students provided information about the socioeconomic status of their parents, the parenting styles used on them, and the behavior of the students. The results of the study revealed that there was a relationship between the socioeconomic status, parenting style, and the behavior of the children. Working class parents used the authoritarian parenting style. The study further showed that the authoritarian parenting style ensured that children were motivated to achieve their dreams.

Although working-class parents raised me, I understand difficulties faced by the children who are raised by low socioeconomic status parents. Low socioeconomic status parents do not provide all the basic needs for their children and they adopt authoritative parenting style. Lack of basic needs causes children to starve, and they may end giving up in life due to lack of motivation. Also, low socioeconomic status parents tend to use much physical punishment to their children. I would then counsel the children raised in low socioeconomic status family to continue working hard to change the economic status of their families. I would motivate these children by giving them examples of people who achieved their goals despite being raised in up by low socioeconomic status parents.

In summary, the article shows the relationship between socioeconomic status and parenting styles. Also, the article describes how different parenting styles affect the overall character of the children. From the article, authoritarian, authoritative, and neglectful parenting styles are adopted depending on the socioeconomic status of the parents. The study in the article showed that low socioeconomic parents adopted an authoritative parenting style where they used too much physical punishment to the children. Low socioeconomic status parents are less supportive of their children in terms of basic needs, and the children can easily give up. Children from low socioeconomic status families require to be counseled to enable them to leave without stress and make them remain motivated.
