Patterns of War in Chile And Argentina

Many countries of the “Southern Cone” portions of South America have gone through challenges before and after independence. Looking at Argentina, it is clear that the countries have had difficult times in the history of its independence, and there have been multiple wars, clashes, and violence in the intra-state, inter-state, and extra-state phases. These wars lasted for many years, and they occurred at different times in the history of this country. Argentina gained its independence from Spain in 1816. but even after the struggle for freedom, the country was also faced with multiple civil wars after that.

In 1776 Argentina became the Spanish colony known as the viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata. In 1806 the British tried to invade Buenos Aires, but the local soldiers defeated them. The May revolution in Buenos Aires of 1810 created the bases for the initialization of the Argentine war of independence (Data Sets. 2020). The independence war lasted up to 1816 when Argentina became independent from its colonial master Spain and was now recognized as a republic on its own. Even after independence, Argentina has experienced a series of civil wars. The wars came as a result of the differences between the utilitarian party and the federal party. Also, the excessive centralism and monopoly by the leaders of Buenos Aires led to wars.

The war for independence in Argentina did not result in national unity as there was still division among the citizens. For instance, the battle of Cepeda in 1820 was a civil war that emerged as a result of fighting for equality among all the provinces of independent Argentina. In the patterns of war before and after independence, there is a clear indication that before, the wars aimed at gaining independence. The wars after independence they were as a result of the lack of equality and unity among the citizens. The civil wars after independence aimed at achieving balance and put an end to the centralized monopoly government.
