Personal Descriptions
From a psychological point o view, people tend to think that their ideologies and ideas are correct. The first thing that comes to anyone’s mind when a different idea emerges is to find a gap into which to critic other people’s ideas. Sometimes, people will even go wrong or even break certain norms but still, think that they should be allowed to do as they so wish. The main reason behind the behavior of people when defending their behavior is a lack of acceptance for one’s shortcomings or failed responsibilities. The introductions given by Lee, Blair, Michael, and Horace reveal how people believe in being right and try to use statements that could appear demeaning to others in a bid to defend themselves.
People will always find ways to defend the reasons for some actions without sounding too transparent or rude. From the introduction given by Lee, one may notice that Lee does not like being a butcher. Although Lee does not mention not liking the butcher’s work, the fact that it was the only thing that Lee did not do may mean that Lee was not interested in doing the job. Blaire is of Hispanic heritage and seems to mock the need to take racism seriously though does not put the points clearly. Blaire claims to be concerned with the racism issue, but the statement that everyone has an equal chance is contradicting. Michael’s introduction is a counter on Blaire’s comment. In a society where racism is an issue, everyone does not have an equal concern. Michael is among the few individuals who decide to make their opinions well known. Horace is candid about the racism issue and believes that chances are not available for everyone.
The use of language to pass information in rather a friendly way is always the norm for many people. People tend to give a general point of view concerning several issues in a way that one cannot be held responsible easily in case things turn sour. For example, people will always find friendly ways of supporting or discouraging racism without sounding rude of racist.
