Personal Interaction with Technology

After years of interacting with technology, I have learned about its positive and negative sides. I know that technology has opened the world to infinite possibilities. Sometimes, I think of a world without technology and how communication used to happen. It must have been such a disconnected world where people used to live without knowing what happens in the external world. Technology has, however, made the world a global village today. Sitting somewhere in New York, one could easily learn about some political activity that happened in Cape Town in South Africa. I have a profound feeling that technology has been impactful in my life; it has helped me to understand the external world. It has also helped me in my studies and even for recreation. Also, I have an understanding that it has improved not just personal encounters like in my case but also in the way that business happens. At the same time, however, I have learned that technology opens scores of views that I do not like making me feel inadequate. I also find that I can merely live without my phone, and hence the conclusion that technology is addictive. Technology is highly effective in creating international connections between people, providing a good source for entertainment, in education, and in business, but there is a need for people to learn how to control it lest they become addicted and have overdependence on it.

The article, “Technology in Our Life Today and How It Has Changed,” observes the different ways in which technology has changed the lives of human beings. The authors observe that the changes that have been experienced since the rise of technology have improved human life. They have made people more knowledgeable, confident, and they have improved the way that people undertake different activities.  Technology has undoubtedly created amazing tools and resources (“Technology in Our Life Today and How It Has Changed” n.p.). It has not just created them but also placed them at the fingertips of human beings. Modern technology has seen devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops that one can use to access any kind of information that they need without stress. Technology, as per the authors, is the revolution that the dark world a few decades ago needed.

Observing the sentiments from a personal view, I also believe that technology has been transformative. The fact that I can carry my smartphone around and just using data bundles I can link up with everyone I need is something that has changed me. Indeed, as an individual who loves politics and wants to explore how things are happening in the external world, I find my smartphone and laptop to be my closest companions. I feel that they are amazing tools that allow me not just to acquire information from far-off places but also to link with people from beyond. Most of the people that I connect with on different sites by the use of my gadgets are resourceful, and I learn a lot from them. Therefore, I can attest that technology is transformative and has revolutionized human life by creating dependable connections.

Also, technology has changed the way that people sought entertainment. Technology has transformed the way that people read books and listen to music, watch movies, and television episodes. Before technology was established, handling paperwork was hard. Even most people who had hobbies in reading books could not find the books completely appealing. Also, listening to music using cassette tapes was tiresome, and watching TV took too much time (“Technology in Our Life Today and How It Has Changed” n.p.). However, recent, things have changed, and the way to acquire entertainment has also changed. One can watch television episodes using their tablet even when they are not any close to their homes. One can also stream music directly without having to download it, and EBooks have become favorite reads for many people.

My view of how technology and how it affects the way I seek entertainment is quite similar. I consider myself a person who does not like meeting people for drinking parties, swimming, and other activities that are considered rational ways of accessing entertainment. Technology, therefore, has provided me with the comfort I deserve, and I can be entertained at the comfort of my home without feeling lonely. I like to watch different movie series which I can readily access on my laptop. I also stream music videos readily on YouTube and read books that I love without necessarily having to buy them from the local bookshop. Technology is thus fascinating in the way that it makes entertainment readily available. It brings it to the needful people in a cheap manner and with convenience.

Another item of considering is how technology has made education easier. In the past, education seemed to be a subject that only depended on a teacher directing learners in formal class. While technology cannot be said to replace the need of an instructor in class fully, it has eased the process of learning. In school, I have encountered different concepts that were hard to understand (Debasish n.p.). Most often, I have not had people to refer to such that they could breakdown the bits I fail to understand. With just some connectivity to the internet, I can search these concepts with ease. I have, in several times, solved complicate questions and learned more of what I had not grasped in class more profoundly on the internet. In other quotas of education, such as for students with special needs, technology has been instrumental in aiding them to learn abstract matters that would be hard for the teachers to train them if it were not for technology.  Therefore, I think that technology is highly advantageous in the field of education.

The reach of technology has been far and wide. Indeed, today, technology is acknowledged for increased production. Technological advancements have improved not just the production of goods that are meant to keep the economy running but also the cost of production. Technology today is used in manufacturing plants, in marketing, and also in management. The reach of technology for the business world cannot be underrated. It has also transformed the way that decisions regarding the management of businesses are made (Cavallo n.p.). Indeed, the force of technology was so hard in its first inception in the world of business that people felt that it would replace the human entity and render them jobless. However, people have come to learn that technology is highly effective. It improves productivity as well as increasing automation; hence, little costs are being associated with the management of businesses as well as their maintenance. I feel that technology is transforming the economies across the world and it needs to be adopted in an increasing way as way to ensure quality and profit-making.

At the same time, however, it would be hypocritical to believe that technology only has positive effects. Technology has its negative sides, which are rarely spoken about. One of the negative facets of technology, especially among the young generations, is that it is increasing dependency. The young people feel like they need technology so as to be human. The increased use of technology is dissociating people and creating a world where people communicate, live, and even stay together, but they do not feel complete without using technology. In my case, I feel like I am too dependent on technology. Whereas I am getting entertained and communicating with the rest of the world from the comfort of my home, I feel that there is a need that I find some extra things to do lest I become addicted to my gadgets. Therefore, there is a need that an honest conversation regarding the use of technology be ensued to make sure that its users do not sink into its addiction.

To conclude, technology has offered the much-needed developments of the 21^st century. I feel that it has made the world a global village and offered people the ability to link with people who are thousands of miles away at the click of a button. Technology has also eased entertainment, and one can read books and watch television episodes as well as listen to music at their convenience. The increased use of technology has extended to education, and it used in special training as well as providing adequate learning material to digital learners. Also, in the field of business, technology is increasingly being used, and it is improving performance as well as alleviating the economy. However, the burden of technology lies in the way that it is creating dependency, which needs to be addressed, lest it becomes the most rampant form of addiction.
