(2018). The essay details every stage in order of occurrence in life using personal life reflection.
Trust vs. Mistrust
This is the earliest stage of life felt at infancy. At this first stage of life, an individual can only be narrated of his or her behavior. Therefore, according to parents, I was a trusting kid. My parents would meet all my needs to keep me calm and free from crying. Besides, they say that I was a joyful kid.
Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
The stage comes second in the order and is experienced at the age of 2 years. At the time, one start to recognize things little by little. As a little kid, I was taught how to handle toys. According to my parents, they say that I realized that I had interests and curiosity about things. From that perspective, it would be accurate to say that I revealed autonomy behavior due to the liking of doing things by myself. Initiative vs. guilt
The stage is often evident at the age of 3 to 5. It is during this stage one starts speaking and responding to things. Just like any other normal growing kid at 4, I was very playful with other kids of my age. In that manner, at this stage, I exhibited initiative features; initiative stage.
Competence vs. Inferiority
The stage comes perceived at the age of 6 up to 11 years. At the stage, I exhibited a sense of pride in every achievement I made as well as in my abilities. It is at this stage I participated in sports. The sports I liked were basketball and volleyball. I developed a feeling of competence, considering that my parents were always ready to support me.
Identity vs. Role Confusion
This stage is evident among young adults or teenagers. At the time, I can say that this is the stage I am at. I have gone through a lot to be able to identify with the roles best suit me. In a real sense, I can say I underwent confusion before achieving self-realization. Being at the college level and pursuing my choice, I still believe I have a long way to take personal identity to the next level into action. The principal objective of this stage is goal achievement. I strive to attain my desires. From struggles psychological struggles, I managed to know who I stand to be through the encouragement I receive from the parents.
Intimacy vs. Isolation
In reality, and considering the argument of Erickson concerning stages of life, I can say I am yet to reach this phase. However, in a few years to come, I am headed here. This stage is accompanied by choice between making close relationships and isolating oneself from the people. From personal characters, I believe that I will fall into the intimacy side of it. The reasons for this stand are in consideration of my previous phases, which seem to end me in performing intimate associations.
Generativity vs. Stagnation
From a personal assessment, I believe to be at the side of ‘Generativity’ during this stage. It is at the time I am hoping to have the responsibility to give birth and care for my kids. I believe in caring as well as achieving things that make the world the best place to be.
Integrity vs. Despair
This is the last stage of development, according to Erickson’s stage of life. I expect to acquire a sense of integrity in the arena. I wish to have no cases of regrets at all. At this stage, I would be happy to reflect on my past and be pleased with my achievements. In short, I would want to have a comfortable old age time.
