Personal statement for law school
From a tender age, I was always looking forward to correcting the misactions by others in society as a way of serving the nation. I ever thought of becoming a policeman, but this did not sound well in me as I saw people in such a profession to be very ruthless. My drive to serve the society was not motivated by harassing the societal members but rather get down to their level and understand that which they were going through and not to humiliate them as it was the case for the police. This drive in me could be effectively attained through my pursuance of the legal profession as a lawyer.
My dream was to become a servant of the people. This motivation was derived from my dad, who was a practising judge in the high court. I always saw my dad receive many calls on a daily basis and even many visits during the weekends at our home. These callers and visitors were people whom my dad had already served before, and those that he was yet to serve. The people came from various walks of life to include the poor and the rich. What actually attracted me to pursue that which my father was doing was the heightened interactions that were involved in the legal profession.
Conversely, the character that I possess, which drives me to pursue law, is being sociable. I am a sociable person who has pride and joy in interacting with people and meeting new people. Given this case, I believe that I am better fit to become a lawyer as this profession demands someone who can easily mingle and interact with people. This is based on the premise that the legal profession focuses on offering direct service to the people. It would be impossible for one to offer legal services without having some sort of interaction with the client. For this reason, I believe that being a lawyer will satisfy my need for interacting with people.
Besides that, I have a heart of helping those in need and really pity them. I always feel so bad when I see someone being taken advantage of in the society, with the inactions being against the law. My interest and passion in helping others have been seen to become stronger in the recent years, with this aspiration having the likelihood of being fulfilled by the legal profession. This is because a bigger portion of the time spent by those in the profession is in assisting others.
Last but not least, I am an advocate for truth and justice. I find it awkward when I realize that someone is cheating so as to take advantage of the situation at hand. I prefer those people who speak the truth, no matter how bad it is for fairness and justice to be arrived at. The push for truth, as a way of attaining justice and fairness among the disadvantaged in the society, can only be accomplished through my pursuance of a career in law. While serving people at this level, I will be better placed to ensure that justice is arrived at, as I will be one of the players in ensuring that justice is done.
