Pictorialism
Over the course of human existence, societies and cultures have developed and evolved in a variety of ways. In each era, the changes were reflected, recorded, and evaluated by the premiere arts of the day. Sometimes their works sparked social change, other times it was a rejection of a change that was occurring. Regardless, it is for good reason that artists are often designated “the voice” of their generation. For this assignment, you will choose a movement, or an artist associated with a movement, that you feel had a significant impact on society/culture. You will focus your research on three things: the time and culture the movement existed in (context), the pillars of the movement (principles, beliefs, characteristics, and people), and the impact of the movement (how the movement represents a shift in societal progress, and/or the impact it had on future art and/or society). Your essay should be 4 – 6 pages and use a minimum of 3 – 5 scholarly sources, including at least one primary source that represents the art or the reception of the art.[unique_solution] Your paper, and all associated assignments, must be in MLA format.
